Hi everyone,

I'm just finishing up my second year and plan to take biochemistry in the summer, while simultaneously doing TPR. I'll also be doing 8-12 hours of research every week this summer, so I was wondering if it's advisable to drop the class and just focus on the MCAT since biochem is considered one of the tougher, upper-division requirements, or if it's doable? I plan to take the mcat in september or august.

Thanks everyone.

Yes it will be bad.

When you say "do TPR", do you mean self-study or the instructor-led class? And from what date until what date would your Biochem class run?

The biochem class is six weeks, so it would run from june 20-end of july.

I mean the instructor led class which meets weekdays for about 3 hours.

I am most likely going to sign up for the september mcat.

bad idea to study along with MCAT. I'd wait til you're done with biochem but study hard for biochem b/c it will help you tremendously for the MCAT

It depends on the person.

I personally would burn out. From what I hear, biochem is like ochem + cell bio combined.

lol, seems like the consensus is to not take the biochem course...

the reason I was even considering it was because I have a lot of friends who studied for the mcat, while taking a full course load during the year, so I thought I could handle studying for the mcat and taking a course on the side..

but I guess it'll be better to just stick to mcats? lol

I would not do it. I studied through the semester with work and activities, and somehow managed to pull off a 35+. However, if I could redo it, I would have focused on just studying the whole summer and taken it at the end, a few weeks before school starts, so that I could have a break before jumping right into classes.

NO. It is a bad idea and you will fall short somewhere....most likely MCAT because lab work is just lab work and it gets done but the fact that you have this huge test lurking while your trying to juggle numerous things at once is just a bad idea.
