Hello,

Several my dental school friends tell me that it's okay to take CBSE several times.

However, I have multiple medical student friends and in medical school, failing USMLE Step 1 once and then passing it after retaking it means pretty much going to residency programs that are located in least popular areas and doing the least popular specialty. Failing Step 1 twice results in dismissal from medical school and his or her career in medicine is over because taking it third time or more and than passing it will not let one get into a residency program.

Then how is taking NBME CBSE multiple times is okay to admission committee members in medical schools and omfs residency program directors?

Is there some damage to us if we take CBSE more than once? If there is, how much is the damage? Is it similar, greater, or worse than taking DAT multiple times?

Thank you.

Unlike the USMLE for medical students or the DAT for prospective dental students with the CBSE you will only report 1 score of your choosing.

Sorry for asking again but i would like to clarify this.

the previous scores or the number of previous attempts are not shown when one reports one's best score??

You can take it as may times as you'd like, and no one would ever know. A few interviews actually asked me, but I really don't think it matters.

You self report the score in your application.

Thank you very much guys. Best wishes to both of you.

No problem. I had the same question and contacted the CBSE organization to ensure that previous scores were confidential and there were no penalties for retakes. I have noticed that it is not uncommon for applicants to take it twice or so to get the highest score possible.
