I'll be interviewing in two different medical disciplines this Match. Is this risky? Will I "get a feel" of which programs will definately rank me (ie secretary, email, resident follow-up) I know officially there is not supposed to be any hint, but it would be nice to know that I'll get some strong "hints" as the process goes forward! Won't I cut my chances in half by splitting my ROL? ??? Thanks

As far as two different programs, I can't comment about it. I know you should be careful about applying to programs in the same hospital.

But when it comes to which programs will definitely rank you...this is all a game. The applicant plays the game of "wanting" to go to every place they interview at and the programs play the game of "wanting" every applicant. One of my friends in this past match was invited back for a second look, was given pediatricians in the area of the program by the Program Director (she was pregnant at the time), spoke with the chief resident throughout the Match process, and guess what ~ she didn't match there. So it's a game and there's no way to tell.

I agree strongly with fuzzy here...post-interview communication is a total GAME. Don't be lured into a false sense of security by vague positive statements from programs...you can get burned in the match. Everyone knows someone who got "the feeling" they would get into a program (via communication with PD/chair/residents)and didn't. I would be careful with the two specialty interviewing...you don't want to be perceived as "less dedicated" to the field you are interviewing in on a given day (ie, don't get caught). It shouldn't directly affect your ROL, although i image it is difficult to do all the additional interviewing needed to apply to two disiplines and rank enough programs to ensure a match. Best of luck in this process...it is nuts.
