Hi

I was wondering how admissions would view a student retaking courses more than once each? Especially a prereq(s)?

For example, if someone took biology at a 4 year previously, didn't do so well because he/she wasn't pursing medicine at a time, then had to take it again at a community college to get an associates degree, and then decides to take it again at a 4 year college (to make sure all prereqs taken are at 4 year schools), how bad would this look?

Or someone just messes up, does really bad, and has to take a course 3 times?

And would that person be advised to take upper-level science courses to make up for this?

Thank you

Don't retake courses even once, unless you have to in order to receive credit for them. Excel in upper level coursework to prove your mastery in a subject against a history of poor performance.

sometimes that isn't always possible

Thanks guys. So as long as you have a good reason such as getting an associates degree, changing career goals, taking a course about 3 times (in different colleges) would be understandable?

There's no reason to re-retake it if you got an A the second time. You're better off showing that you can handle the upper-level classes at a 4 year uni than taking pre-reqs for a third time.

No. It would look ridiculous and like you were trying to pad your GPA by taking the same course over and over.

As long as you got a C or better on attempt number two, move on. If you got below a C on attempt number two, that is a whole different issue that needs to be looked at.
