Although I am happy to have been accepted to two out-of-state pharmacy schools, I am especially concerned about the out-of-state passing rate on the CPJE (California licensing exam), whose failure rate for out-of-staters is alarmingly high (~25%).

Is this more a fault of the school or the student? Should I take a school's CPJE pass rates into account when deciding between schools?

Before CA implemented the NAPLEX, out of state applicants taking the CA Board had a passing rate of 50%. In state applicants used to have a passing rate of 75% to 85%.

Don't worry too much about it. Whether you pass the CPJE or not depends more on you than the pharmacy school you attend.

Does it have to do with pharmacy students not really enjoy studying law/policies/etc and therefore do poorly on the CPJE?

Trust me, this fact concerns me as well. For the 12 students that took the test last year, 5 failed(42% failed).

I started studying today!!!

The failure rates are like that in every state where you didn't attend. It's because the laws vary from what you are used to and you haven't had that state ingrained into your skull. Just get a good CA study program and it won't matter...or just intern in CA...that'd do her, too.

That may be true for the MPJE, but the CPJE is entirely different since it's not really a law exam. For my CPJE, out of 90 questions, ony 5 questions were related to law, the rest were clinical. Similar to Naplex, but 10 times harder, hence lower passing rate. Back to the OP question, the CPJE should not be a deciding factor of what school you should be attending. I don't know anyone that doesn't pass the CPJE after their 2nd try, this include both in-state and out-of-state students.

cpje is hard no matter where u went to school

either you know it or don't

the cpje does not discriminate..........it doesnt matter if u went to usc or university of south carolina..........it will eat you up and spit you out........then eat u back up again until you beg for mercy........

hahhahahaha

maybe i feel this way because i had to retake it..........hahahaha..........buy the weissman law book at usc bookstores NOW!!!!!!!!! that is about all you need for the 5 or 6 law questions on the exam

No since as you may have already read, the CPJE is mainly on clinical pharmacy. I think the CA BOP sets the standards and it seems like they have decided to only pass the top 75% percentile. I think as the number of pharmacists go up, they may even set the standards higher.

I would think that if you want to practice in CA you should try to attend a school in CA. Not only will there be some exposure to the material on the CPJE but you will also be closer to an alumni network.

I think the OP is asking because h/she did not get into a California school and is considering out of state schools.
