Can anyone tell me what will happen if I take the DAT after applying? I have read that it takes awhile to process your application so taking the DAT after will not slow the process down much. Will they also need time to process my DAT score after they recieve it? Does my DAT score go through the service or is it sent directly to schools?
Thanks!

I applied in June, but took the DAT in September. Although you should try to take the DAT as early as you can, it is definitely advantageous to submit your app as soon as you can because AADSAS process and send out your app without the DAT scores. DAT scores will be sent to the schools directly from the ADA and you will indicate which schools you want to receive them on the DAT application. Unfortunately, the individual schools most likely will not process your application until they receive your DAT scores, but at least they will have it in hand for processing right away when your scores arrive. In my case, all of the schools processed my app very quickly after I submitted my scores. Some even took a fax of my personal score sheet to bypass the 2-week+ time period it took the ADA to send the scores.

How long does it usually take them to process the application?

Different people have different experiences depending on when it is sent in, what time in the process etc. I would say anywhere from 2-3 weeks at the fastest to maybe 6 weeks give or take. Mine took about a month and I submitted it in mid-July.

i would try to take the DAT before applying, if possible. it's nice to know your scores so you don't waste money on the schools with high DAT averages (i.e. harvard, columbia, and pacific)...

jb!🙂

or vice versa...😉

I took my DAT after I submitted my AADSAS and I had already applied to 10 schools based on what i thought would be the lowest i would get on the DAT. Part of me wishes I wouldn't have applied to as many right off the bat and applied to a few more after I took the test just to see what might have happened. But you you know what, you can't predict the future so apply with the purpose of getting in, that is the goal. Turns out I got in to the school which I probably would have attended regardless of where else I was accepted.
