I have just finished the BIO classes. I need one year of O Chem. I am planning to take the DAT in the winter break after I finished the O Chem. 1 class. And take the O Chem. 2 @ spring 2006. I will apply Stony Brook, NYU and SHUN @ Buffalo. Should I send in the application for 2006 or I should wait for 2007?
First, I am not sure if I could get good score on DAT if I only have O Chem. 1; don't have O Chem. 2.
Second, Even I submit the application, is that too later to take DAT around winter break.

Most schools will not even consider your application until it is complete - DAT scores and all. That means that if you take the DAT during your winterbreak a lot of dental schools will be sending out their first rounds of acceptance letters and will be starting the process of filling seats. While you still have a chance at such a late start the likelihood of success will be much greater if you apply early for the 2007 cycle.

I am not sure about the schools you are planning to apply to but several schools have deadlines for DAT scores before December. Look into it. Probably best to wait for the next cycle.

Thanks,
I think I will apply for 2007 cycle. I don't want to waste another year but I don't have any choice at this point.

I was in your same position about a year and a half ago, I too wanted to apply early. I am so glad i waited another year. You really don't realize how difficult the DAT is. I would wait till at least a month or so after your winter Ochem class to take the DAT. The DAT does not have alot of difficult Ochem but just to be safe take time and STUDY. I don't care how smart you are. There is a direct correlation between DAT scores and study time, for all of us non geniouses out there.

in my experience taking (and working hard in) the ochem classes helped tremendously on the DAT. studying the book on your own just wouldn't do it. and there's plenty of ochem-2 on the DAT. I would just wait until 2007 and take your time to do it right.
