So, I'm registering for classes at the moment. I only have 4 pre reqs left....but didn't do so hot in Genetics...passed with a "C"....I'll be retaking that in the spring. However,I would like to take an additional upper level course....so should I take all three of these classes together? Is A&P even covered on the MCAT??? Should I take Ecology or Molecular Bio instead of A&P?

Why did you take genetics before bio 2? Maybe that's why you received a C...

Because it was not required. Also, there was a schedule conflict at the time when I wanted to take Bio 2.

well its not a hard schedule if that's what you're asking.

I'm asking if A&P is considered a good upper level class? I've taken Bio 1, a graded supervised Biology Research Lab and Genetics so far. I already have my degree in Psychology.

You know what....I just looked at my transcript again, technically Bio 1 and Bio 2 are only required as far as pre-reqs go. So, my supervised research lab is listed as an upper Biology class and then Genetics is upper level as well. I think I'm good : )

I swear this is your 3rd thread about the same topic...

you people are sooo mean 😛 haha

OP I think A&P is considered upper level because that is a hard class. It may vary between institutions but I think bio 2 is generally environment/ecology like stuff, whereas bio 1 is more molecular with the dna, glycolysis, krebs all that stuff so bio 2 is an easier class. How hard gen chem 2 is will depend on you and just how good you are with chemistry, it's a gift- either you got it or you don't. And A&P is a lot of memorization and reading. I think you could handle it as long as you stay ahead of your work.

Molecular biology is much deeper than what you will see on the mcat, it sure can help but the mcat will not test these concepts as heavily since the mcat biology is more on basic concepts that would be throroughly covered by your pre-req bio courses. There is some A&P on it but very basic things such as heart, respiration, skin, nervous system. Again though, it is a very basic level of understanding that you need. If you took A&P and did well in it you would be golden for the mcat and probably would only need a short review prior to your test date. If you decide not to take A&P, all you need is a biology content review book to prepare for the mcat and you can learn the concepts on your own.. no biggie.

Hope that helped answer your questions! just my $0.02 😉

At most schools, A&P is a 2000 level class which is not upper level. Adcoms don't look at it as an upper level class like they do mo-cell, biochem, genetics etc.

I think that varies between schools, I go to a large state school and its a 400 level class, and that's not gross mammalian anatomy this is just regular A&P. OP should look into that for his/her school. A&P for the nutrition, athletic training or phys-ed majors is 200, at least for my school. My school could just be the minority but I think that is fairly consistent with A&P across my state.

A&P is not upper level IMO. Is was primarily for nursing majors at my university Take the hardest class you can and shine! Show them who is boss.

Thanks everyone : ). I'll probably take molecular genetics with organic chem 1 in the spring. I've already taken regular genetics and a supervised research class which counts as upper level biology
