Hello,

Any opinions on taking the MCAT then voiding score merely for experience?

I am considering taking it and then voiding so that I gain an understanding of the length and content of the exam.

I won't take the exam for another year and a half, about...

Thank you

I don't think its a very practical idea unless you have unlimited funds, but apparently some people do that. I'm also not sure if you plan on taking this 'practice' exam 1.5 years out, but don't do that. If you do this, I'd do it a week or 2 before your actual test.

The consensus on this forum is overwhelmingly that this is a bad idea. There are plenty of high quality full lengths from prep companies for a fraction of the price.

Not only that but schools can see that you've voided an exam and that's neutral at best and will raise some eyebrows at worst. There's no benefit to it, really.

No they can't. This has been repeatedly stated on here and addressed thoroughly by @Goro @gyngyn @gonnif . Schools cannot see voids because there is nothing to report. Only scored exams are sent automatically to schools via AMCAS.

If you prepare smartly, there is no need to take an actual exam and void. Practice in the proper setting and take a timed FL (preferably the ones released by AAMC). If you prepare sufficiently beforehand, these practice scores will give you a good idea of where your actual score will land.

Ah gotcha. I stand corrected. Still, I don't think taking the actual MCAT for the experience is a good idea for practical and financial reasons.

No, don't do this. Waste of money. And it's a waste since you won't see your results to know where you're weak.

Take an online practice test timed.

Don't waste the money if you just intend to void. If you really want the MCAT experience and the testing-center vibe, hit up your school's testing center and see if they will let you take a practice exam there. Usually during breaks when they're not too busy they don't mind giving you a seat, but of course this also depends on your school's testing center director and how nicely you ask.

Schools will know you voided iirc. If you have more money then sense I would do it. Just go to a computer lab and take practice exams under timed conditions.

Let's put a stake in the heart of this...schools do NOT know if you voided!!! Lib, I'm tasking you with stopping this disinformation from now on.

so not worth it

just take one or both of the AAMC Official practice tests and try to simulate test day as much as possible. That's what almost everyone else does

I mean... it would be a very expensive practice test where you don't even get your score back
