I plan to submit my AACOMAS the first day it opens in June 2013 (without MCAT scores). I plan to take the MCAT in early June 2013. The only reason why I am not taking the MCAT before June 2013 is because I will not have completed all of my pre-med requirements. So, I won't know the material that will be on the MCAT. I could try to take the MCAT in April 2013 or some time before June 2013, but I believe that I wouldn't score as well because I wouldn't have completed some pre-med courses. My current plan (take MCAT in June 2013 and retake in August 2013 if my score is too low) is what my pre-health advisor has suggested.

Am I at a severe disadvantage for taking the MCAT in June 2013? I will submit my AACOMAS the first day it opens in June 2013. I hope to enter DO school in Fall 2014.

Should be good to go. Good luck

I took my mcat in June this year and was still able to apply pretty early.
If I hadn't received a good score, I don't know how easy it would have been to retake it in August though. Those seats fill up pretty quickly.

I took my MCAT in August and just received my 2nd acceptance today. Applying "late" doesn't seem to hurt as much for DO applications as long as you score well on the MCAT and have a solid GPA. As you know the MCAT is important and you don't want to retake it so make sure you a prepared for it. If that means you can't apply "early" don't worry about it, just get a good score and everything should fall into place.

You're fine. Don't take the *must be complete by 6/1* thing too literally, apply according to what's best for you. Anytime within the first few months of the app cycle shouldn't affect your chances a whole lot. Early June MCAT = Early July release of scores, which is plenty early.

FYI, late August MCAT here, and most of my secondaries weren't even submitted until well into Oct/Nov. I'm doing fine. Just choose your school selection wisely.

because you wont have any mcat scores, and verification can't start until you have those, use the time you would spend on the app to study. the day after your mcat, start filling out the application. that way everything is in when your mcat scores get released. it takes one day to link the scores and you can submit and start verification almost instantly, but you can't do much before those scores.

just to clarify the previous post, you can submit everything for verification through AACOMAS before you have your MCAT score and they will process and verify it. I received my AACOMAS verification email about 2 hours on the day before my MCAT score was posted online. You won't receive all of your secondaries til you submit that score to AACOMAS and they update your application with it. Surprisingly a lot of schools even sent me their secondaries prior to my MCAT being added my my primary.

I actually took the MCAT on August 5th and had lagging problems (don't get me started about this-- Prometric doesn't make me happy) so I decided to retake 2 weeks later on the 19th. If your computer is freezing for 30 seconds every time you hit a new screen then that's not normal even if the employees say it is-- it's very difficult to go back and check your answers, revisit problems, etc. Plus, it's frustrating.

oh. nevermind. submit day one.

You'll be fine, but if you don't get a good score it will be hard for you to retake and still have a chance at the next cycle.

Originally I was going to do the same as you, apply in June and retake my MCAT in June/July. I don't plan on having to retake it again (I'm taking it in April) but if for some reason I have to, I will have time to retake it and have the score early in the cycle.

In short, if you do well on your June MCAT and don't need to retake it, you will be just fine!

1. Is it common for people to take the MCAT without having taken all of the prerecs?

2. If I took the MCAT in April 2013, I would be taking Organic 2 and Physics 2 during that time. Could I still do well on the MCAT having not completed Organic 2 and Physics 2?

To moderator: I think this thread has the same topic as a thread that I started a while ago (thread is titled, "MCAT problem"). Perhaps the two threads need to be merged somehow? I apologize for the mistake.

Some people do take the MCAT before all prereqs have been completed, but I think in your situation in would be better to just finish them and take it in June. The more you study for the MCAT the better you will do and finishing those two classes will definitely help you do better on the MCAT.

If you don't take a course you'll need to self-study for it which will be very time consuming yet possible. The only time I'd say "go for it" and take the MCAT before completing your big four pre-reqs is if your schedule or school prohibits you from taking the course you need. If you then reallocate your time and take 1 fewer class and teach yourself the material in the time that you save then I would do that.

I have not taken my MCAT yet (scheduled for July 26th). Should I go ahead and submit my AACOMAS application ASAP, or should I dedicate my time to the MCAT and then work on my application after I take it? Please advise, thank you!

I'm taking mine august 16, so don't fret. I know that you can submit everything in the application, but it will not go to any schools until they receive your scores. In an ideal situation, focus on studying, as a good MCAT score is the priority.

However, spending a couple hours here and there to round everything up is a good idea. What's it take like 2-3 weeks after you take the test for them to score it and send it out? So you'll have that long after you take it until the earliest possible time your primary COULD go out. So you'll have that time, plus any headway you make now while studying. Just plan it out well so you don't have to wait around for transcripts and LORs

Is it ok if I ask but was your mcat score from august well above average? Im thinking of retaking in august but Idk if that is too late since Ill get my score in september...For DO I mean
