ok heres the deal, i have taken orgo 1 at a university and received a C and moved on from it. I took Orgo 2 during the summer but dropped it due to it being a tough class especially in the summer, and now in the fall i've had to drop orgo 2 again. The reason i've dropped it twice is because im worried it will severely hurt my GPA if i get another C as I am just past 3.0 in my sciences and dont want it to fall below 3. Is it more simpler to revert back to a community college to take orgo 2, or just go for it again at the university for a third time??

Thanks for your advice

I would not suggest taking the course at a different institution. A friend of mine asked a few AdComs before and they did not recommend it. I am a supporter of using withdrawals and believe that a withdrawal or two should be fine, but I do not know how a W in the same course would look. This is a rather tough situation you are in, but to answer your question you should retake it at the university again. Good luck!

I took Orgo 1 at a CC and Orgo 2 at a university. I haven't been questioned about it once and I don't understand why people say that. I can see why they don't suggest it because you have to take it in an environment that you are not familiar with. As long as you do good in the class I don't think it will be a big deal where you take it. I had quite a few classes that were split CC/University like Orgo, Bio, and Physics. I applied to 3 schools, got two interviews so far. Accepted to one school and it never came up. Good luck to you.

Take it where you can get a better grade. Would you rather tell someone at an interview that you got a B or a C?

As the previous post told me to take it where i get a better grade, is that significantly true where it will really hurt my chances of getting acceptance at pharm school by taking it at CC than a university?

It does not matter if the courses are taken at a community college or university, but it is simply the fact that you chose to take it somewhere different after you withdrew twice that will make certain schools wonder. Some interviews will be open file with your transcripts in hand, while other interviews will be closed file. Would you be able to explain why you did it during your interviews if that question were to come up? Because telling the interviewer that you did not want to ruin your GPA or that the course was too difficult during the summer will not cut it. Keep in mind that it may not even be asked. Every school will be different so just call and ask the school what their views are on the subject and you will get your answer.

I would highly suggest UNDERSTANDING what you are doing over anything. It will serve you well in other courses, PCAT, pharm school. I retook both orgos, not only because i thought i could do better, but because I wanted a better understanding of chemical concepts etc. GPA is important but make sure wherever you decide to take it, study and understand concepts...not just memorizing reactions.

If you FAIL a class you should try to retake the class at the original university. Otherwise, if you're just taking prerequisites it's okay to take it at a CC.

I took all of my prereqs at a CC, retook both organics (at the same CC) to improve my grades in them, and got into pharmacy school this cycle just fine. I think the only thing that will *possibly* give you issues will be that it'll look weird on your transcripts that you W'ed orgo II twice at the university you attend, and then out of the blue you have orgo II at a CC and it's the only class you've ever taken there. Like other posters have said, be prepared to explain that if you have an open file interview. With that being said though, I also think that if you do decide to take orgo at the CC, be sure to kick its butt and get an A. If you do anything less, I think it'll just further show that after withdrawing from the university course, that you also did just "okay" in the CC offered version and that will look more negative in your application. If you get an A in the CC organic, I don't think you have anything to be worried about, and I don't think it'll be overly questioned (if at all) in your interviews. If you did get asked why you took it at the CC, I guess you could say something like it was a difficult subject for you and you wanted a smaller class size with a smaller student to faculty ratio or etc... Not sure how solid of an excuse that would be for the interviewers though. Either way, good luck!

Good points.
