hey there.
what is the policy about taking pics of patients you see? let's say you wanna take a picture of a rare rash. i assume that as long as the patient gives consent and no personal info is included it should be okay. but in light of HIPAA and legal stuff that keeps coming up. does anyone know any guide lines??

thanks

if they can't be identified from it, you can do it even without their consent.. just don't tell them. HIPAA is the medicine's bastard stepchild.

don't even ask for consent, stick it to the man. "but how can you tell this is you, it's only a rash on a penis... it could be anyone's penis and rash"

I've taken several pics of patients - asked first and made sure the pt knew that they wouldn't be identifiable from the picture. With a digital camera you can show the pt the picture so they know they can't be id'ed.

You might have to get IRB approval first... j/k 🙄
