I was hoping if anyone had any insight on whether PT schools accept courses that are taken online? I just graduated from Cal so I was planning on finishing the rest of my prereqs at a community college. A lot of schools I want to apply to require 2 psychology courses and I have only taken 1 course. I wanted to take either an abnormal psych or developmental psych course online, but I don't know if this is frowned upon or if PT schools will even accept an online course for the pre-reqs?

Thanks so much!

Best thing to do is call each individual program up and find out. Some do, some don't.

I know you can take exercise physiology online from UCLA extension since that's how I did mine, though.

Seems like most schools accept online courses. University of Pacific, however, only accepts Medical Terminology for an online prereq. Which is a shame because I took Ab Psych and Medical Terminology online 🙁

How about chemistry classes online? I was thinking about taking them from OSU Ecampus bc it's quarter system and the syllabi seem to match up. I checked with UCSF and apparently they don't take them... I don't know if it's because they are online classes or because the classes aren't equivalent.
Anyone have any suggestions to where I can take them online AND is accepted by PT schools? I'm running out of ideas and summer session starts soon!

Definitely email/call the schools you're interested in. Schools are much more likely too allow online psych/english courses because they don't have a required lab component.

I also just graduated from Cal! 🙂

How can you complete the lab online? I can understand if they're blended courses, which means the class meets face-to-face (F2F) but also has online material. The lecture can be online but the lab has to be done in person. I don't think that will ever change.

I didn't do an online lab physics but it was home school style lab, it's called Labpaq. They send you lab material in the UPS and you have to do the lab then write a report stating what happened and the steps you went through to complete it such as description, procedure, analysis, sample calculation, and conclusion. It was the hardest thing I had to do. For anatomy and physiology, a lot of schools use online labs, even well known schools like the University of South Florida which use an online software called Primal 3D, other schools use McGraw Connect. Finally, for chemistry, they use something called onlinechemlab which uses real time to weigh items and time. All I'm saying is it's possible but you have to ask your specific school if they accept online labs, some may say no, some may say yes.

Many schools offer online chemistry with labs you do at home by yourself. You have to buy some equipment and materials (beakers, chemicals, etc). I have a few friends who took an online chemistry together and would have their weekly "lab" in the kitchen. Most lab experiments in gen chem are so simple that you can easily follow written directions. Lab instructors are generally only there to unlock the door and make sure you don't break anything, so I think an online lab is reasonable for Chem I and II.

There are schools who do not accept online courses for certain classes. For example, UNE's DPT program does not accept the online chemistry offered by UNE.

Did anyone else get waitlisted for UCLA extension's exercise physio class?
