The answer is probably out there but after digging through 50 unrelated threads and I finding 1 semi-relevant topic, I'll just ask my damn question.

I'm going to take Bio 1 and physics II in fall of next year. By then I'll be done will all my prereqs execpt Bio II (plants and ecology) and Biochem which are not on the MCAT.

I plan on taking a review course concurrently with Bio 1 and Physics II in in Fall 2010 and I plan on taking the MCAT in January '10.

I'll take a semi-light course load (13-14 units) so my grades don't suffer while studying for the MCAT but is it a bad idea to take two important prereqs while taking the prep course?

I'm a community college junior transfer and I'm spending an extra year in university to finish the prereqs that i didn't take at CC.

I did something similar to this during my MCAT prep. I was taking Physics III (quarter system) along with a few other classes / labs while taking a Kaplan class. I found that, if anything, taking the pre-req while taking the course enhanced both my MCAT studying AND how I did in the class. They really seemed to compliment one another. I would assume that the material covered in the intro bio class will be much easier, however, than that being covered in the prep material (my experience).

You're good. Don't count on there being much overlap between your prep course and your bio class...they'll cover a ton of bio topics in your prep course. It's good that you're taking your mcat so close to your prep course so that most of the material is still fresh in your mind.

One point that I can't over-emphasize enough is that the mcat is only half memorization--it is incredibly important to learn how to take the test itself (process of elimination, etc...). One method that really helped me was that for every question the first thing I did was to eliminate the two answers that were most obviously not correct. This left me with two answers to choose from--a 50-50 chance isn't bad at all. The other thing is managing your time...you don't want to run out of time on the mcat, but you should learn all this in your prep course. Good luck.

Hey there..I'm done with bios, and general chem, but still missing orgo and physics. I took these classes in high-school ( I don't remember much) And I will be taking orgo I and physics I next semester while I take a Kaplan course for the MCAT, which I'll take in May next year. Hopefully, taking those classes right before the MCAT will keep everything fresh, and whatever I'm missing from orgo and physics II, I hope will be compensated by the Kaplan course. So if you took all of those pre requisites that are in the MCAT you should be fine I think 🙂 Good luck! 🙂

cool thanks guys, i guess I was worried that I wont be able to understand half the stuff going on in the review course for bio and whatever is covered in the second half of physics.

you didn't taken bio or chem not in college?

Hey..I took both bio and chem both in high school and recently in college. Orgo and physics were the ones that I took in high school but I still have to take them in college. 🙂
