I'm Asian. I don't like wearing shoes for extended periods of time when I'm sitting down. I am planning on taking off my shoes as soon as I sit into my chair at the testing center. It will be early morning at 8 am, so my feet won't smell yet, even with this Northeastern heat.

I've heard reports of people being told off about behavioral things during the test. Has anyone else done this before? (i.e., taken off their shoes during the test) Or would the policy depend on my testing center? I am considering giving my center a call about this but am afraid they will think I am trolling really hard. (But I'm not...)

This is a 100% serious question. I like trolling, but this isn't it. I don't want to wear my sneakers for 3+ hours. I don't want to be interrupted mid-section to be told to put my shoes back on. I would rage so hard it's not even funny.

flip flop?

There will probably be AC at the center, and my feet get cold easily. I would wear socks and flip flops, but that is just not my style. Plus, it makes walking pretty difficult. Also, I don't want to look like the relaxed douche who shows up in a v-neck, salmon shorts, flip flops, and shades looking like I'm going to surf. (The rest of that outfit is necessary for good luck charm purposes, fyi lol)

Right cuz you'll look like less of a douche when you take your shoes off. The most obvious answer is to call the testing center and ask. There's no need for a thread on this.

You start a thread about using the search function and the clutter in this forum and then start a thread like this shortly after? Call the testing center.

I took my shoes off, and my belt. I have no idea why anyone would need to know or even notice that you took your shoes off. Just be discrete and I doubt anyone will give two sh*ts.

1. I know plenty of Asians that wear shoes for long periods of time! Haha.. Where are you from? (I'm curious, Hawaii?)

2. Why not wear flip flops? Who would know if you slipped them off? Many people slip flip flops off without even thinking about it.

3. If you're that concerned, you can call Prometric. Their testing center numbers are online. They are usually good about answering questions, as long as you're patient and allow them put the phone down to check people in during the phone call.

I get your point, but it's not the same thing I was complaining about. I'm not going around asking what SN2ed is. I know to call the testing center, but was just curious to ask anyway.

1. Not that exotic. New York City, born and bred.

2. Naked feet without socks make my feet cold 🙁 Flip flop with socks are no bueno.

3. I was gonna do that anyway. 👍

This was my logic. Cool to see that it's worked before. Anal people in NYC are anal.

Find some funky designer slip-ons, then slip them off. (Just use your feet. Definitely don't reach under the desk.)

Ah, right. Didn't even think about that. Wouldn't want to be body tackled by the proctors seeing it on video hahahahahaha :diebanana:

All of the test centers have different climates. Ask your tester before you enter if they think you will need a sweater/etc. - mine said it was comfortable in there and so all of us left our sweaters in our locker (a good move, because you basically can't remove your sweatshirts or any kind of clothing once in there).

If you like to remove shoes (like me- I'm just more comfortable sitting cross legged!) wear flip flops. You can be kicked out and have your score voided if you remove sneakers/clogs/close-toes shoes of any kind. They are very serious about this, so I wouldn't mess around with it!

I also like to take off my shoes. The proctor specifically told me not to take off my shoes during the exam. (FYI I took it at 1 penn plaza)

Ouch. I shall call this week and report back with what my center says.

I was actually considering taking my pants off during the exam considering that is how I take my AAMC exams.... let me know how the shoe thing goes..... might help me with the pants...

Took my shoes off and sat cross-legged with just socks. But like an earlier poster said, I didn't reach out and slip my shoes off. I just kicked em off using my feet and did it discretely.

I sat for the DAT at the prometric center. I took my sandals off and the lady came around and said it was not allowed. Odd.

If you find out that you could get away with it if you're wearing flip flops, I would say just forget style for the sake of a brief test and wear socks (for the AC) + flip flops for easy removal.

It's not style...it's difficult to walk and I need to walk a bit to catch the bus home

Then you just go to the bathroom after the test and take off the socks. It's not like you're going to need them sans air conditioning

This conversation is seriously happening lol

What about slides that don't have toe loops?

Nah, I don't care THAT much about it. I have sucked up worse things than this before.

Yes it is. Comfort is very important to get the best score possible. I think I'll be fine.

I'm not shocked the question was asked, I'm surprised that so many hypotheticals had to be brought to the table when it seems very easy to come up with a solution, contingent on the fact that you can take your shoes off. I didn't think it was weird to ask whether or not you could wear shoes, I think it's unexpected that there would be Shoe Theory discussion

Hopefully OP doesn't have smelly feet!

I'm assuming I could take my shoes off ahead of time and stash them outside the testing room, though, right? I mean, let's get real, I don't even wear my shoes in class. I take them off as soon as I sit down (by reflex)...if I've been in the building all day, my shoes are probably not even in the room!

I called. True to the NYC fashion, they were impatient and didn't take my question to be as serious as I think it is. (The good ol' Big Apple...) The woman asked me "Now why would you want to do that" two times after I had already explained why before moving on in the conversation. :wtf: I am not asking for advice on taking off shoes, so save it, please.

So yeah, no taking shoes (or any article of clothing) off in the testing room. She even alluded to the possibility of "potential problems" if I took them off outside and stored them in the lockers, but then I got pissed and really grilled her angrily (yes I can play the tough New Yorker game, too, ma'am), so she backed down, quickly went to "ask for clarification," and returned saying that it would be fine.

I hate this ****ing city.

I took everything off except my boxers and I never finished my exam. Go figure.

lol, dying. I took my sweatshirt without thinking about it (it was totally unconscious) because the room was so hot and was castigated outside during the break when I could have been eating more chocolate. They're really strict about you keeping on what you walked into the test center wearing and they usually make that clear. OP, the choice is yours.

I'm pretty sure I ended up taking off my shoes while taking the test. I wasn't even thinking about it, I just did it automatically. When I realized like 10-15 minutes later, I put them on.

Either way, they shouldn't see your feet. And considering for them it's a mundane, daily job, I doubt they'd really give two ****s. Don't bring too much attention to yourself and just casually do it if you really have to.

Goes without saying that taking your sweater off is a big no-no considering they specifically specify.it.

Get over it.

Wear flip flops. Kick them off as soon as you sit down.

No one will care.

Problem solved.

What does you being asian have to do with anything?

At least at the center I was in, no. They were total jerks there. I tried taking off my sweatshirt and putting it on the chair. Someone came in saying I needed to put it on or they would void my test. I said I would put it on my lap and they still said no. They compromised at me just wearing it at my neck without having to put it completely on.

Apparently, my center cares. I can only leave everything in the locker.

So here's to walking into the room with socks on! Hahahaha

Yeah I'd be pissed if this cost me 2 minutes on a section, especially VR.

I took the test last month and took off my shoes and sat cross-legged on my seat for each section. No problems... Everything is under the desk and so, I'm assuming, if you don't look suspicious, then they may not say anything? Call and ask though!

It appears that my test center is run by dicks. As is expected of this goddamn city.

I never even considered this. I usually take off my shoes halfway through an exam and frequently sit with one foot under the other thigh. It's just what I'm used to.

But I don't want to be the weird person calling and asking if I can take off my shoes. Then again, I don't even have a phone number since my testing centre got moved and all I have is an address and floor number.
