How many of you will/have taken the MCAT in August before you start your juniro year? For those of you who have, would you do it again, or would you waint until April?

thanks

Lots of people do this, and if you've already finished the pre-reqs by then and can spend the whole summer studying, I think it's a great idea.

I have friends who did it, and it made it much easier for them to start the application process early their sr. year.

Good luck!

I only wish I could of done that. I feel like trying my best this cycle if I don't get in I'll start it REAL early next cycle. However, I am applying DO and would go that route than waste another year.

I did it, and I highly recommend it, provided you have at least one year of biology, one year of gen chem, one year of organic chem, and a year of physics. A semester of physiology is recommended, as is a semester of genetics, but neither is necessary to do well on the biology section. However, they would help. The other two-semester science series are NOT optional - very few people can do well without them.

Btw, analytical chemistry will not really help you on the PS section, IMO.

What about Biochem? Calc based physics? will those help? HAHA I couldn't resist.

I took it this August, and just started my junior year. I definitely recommend it. While people were complaining about organic and physics, I had that stuff down cold because I'd just finished taking it. Don't worry if you don't have biochem or genetics. I felt very comfortable, scoring a 38 on one of my practice exams. Just make sure you have the pre rec's and you'll be fine.

I just took mine and feel I scored well on the test. I'd do it if you're ready, there's really no disadvantage to it besides not being able to do much during the summer. The advantage (to me at least) is that if I don't do as well as I'd like, I can still retake it in April and have the scores in time for applications.

The most important thing though for me is that I won't have the stress and junk about studying during this spring quarter and can laugh while my friends are all worried about passing their classes on top of writing the mcat. They'll probably wish they were me.

I just did it as well this past August. I had taken a couple junior/senior level courses in molecular biology. I highly suggest you take one...on top of the regular biology, chemistry, etc. classes.

I did it, and only had the first level of each of the required sciences and also had a year of calculus (which is of no help, a bit with physics maybe). It's great, cause this allows me to study abroad in an HIV program in South Africa my junior year. You can only study abroad your junior year at my school, so I did bio over summer after my freshman year to squeeze in all my prereqs....also, this meant that all the info was still very fresh in my mind. In sum, I recommend it totally.
