Aim to take the MCAT only once. But if you have to retake, then you have to retake. But climb that mountain when the time comes.

As an aside, I took the MCAT twice. The second time, my scores improved only by two points. I guess retaking did not hurt me.

if you know your first mcat was a result of some weakness that you didnt address or whatever... take it

If you honestly think u can study again and differently this time go for it... otherwise ... you will risk get the same score, if not lower.

Taking it twice won't hurt your chances if you improve, but try to aim for one shot at it, because honestly you do not want to be studying for it again after you take it the first time.

I took it twice, going from 34O - > 37Q.... but only because I had to, because the old score had expired

I took it 3 times. Second time one point improvement the next time 4 points. If you need to retake do it, but dont plan too.

where did you hear this about "most" schools?

Yeah, you can't assume most schools do that. It's either: 1) most recent score, 2) combination of best sections, 3) average of all the times you took it.

I can read and the schools that I researched when I was applying for MD and DO did what I said they did with the scores take the highest for each subject and came up with a score.
