I have heard that LJ is a great place to be and that the training is excellent. How are they with IMG's and has anyone foreign matched there. What is there view of mediocre board scores?

I interviewed there.

Didn't go.

One thing that really stuck in my craw was someone on Scutwork.com gave a very nasty review of the place. However in LIJ's defense, it was one review out of a few good ones, and there are trollers about on the internet, willing to BS and exagerate a program's faults. I don't know who the person was but from my limited knowledge of the situation, it was someone who gave an unfair evalation of the place.

The people there seemed nice but you really can't tell during an interview. Everyone's going to give their best performance, interviewer and interviewee. I asked the residents there to give me the real lowdown and they all had good things to say about the place. They said the work schedule was fairly light for most rotations. You do though have to do all nighter calls.

They do offer a very large resident salary, one of the biggest in the country (I think it actually may have been THE BIGGEST), however the cost of living in the area is also very expensive.

The area its in is right in between NYC and its rural suburbs, so it will offer a good mix of urban and rural psychiatry. It also has a fairly respected name. No its not MGH, but it has a solid reputation.

They did have a fair number of FMGs. A buddy of mine was in their fellowship program for child psyche, and he told me that their program director doesn't hold anything against FMGs because he's seen too many good ones. Obfan--as you know I'm an FMG and they didn't give me any hassle, nor did any of the attendings who interviewed.

I ended up putting LIJ high on my match list, but didn't end up going there.
