I've been working for a health start-up during medical school. I'm applying to a handful of California(Bay Area) programs and thinking about putting a paragraph in my personal statement for those schools about my interest in health innovation and desire to work in the field at some point in the future. I'm from a completely different another region of the county and was told a PD to put some reasons as to why I want to train in California. My reasons are family connections and proximity to health technology innovators. Recently there's been a lot of bay area med school graduates ditching medicine for health startups. Of course practicing doctors, especially those in academics aren't been happy about this. I don't want programs to think I'm a "flight risk" and not dedicated to clinical medicine. So my question is this type of career goal a positive?
