hey guys
I have upcoming interview with Target for pharmacist position. how hard is it to transfer from target to CVS once I get settled in? the only reason being job security for future. who knows when CVS decide to close down that pharmacy.

Thanks in advance.

Target is being run as a separate company similar to how caremark is. This is like someone saying they have an interview at caremark and wondering how easy it is to transfer to cvs.
Once you get hired I think it would be fairly easy to transfer to a cvs store.

No more difficult than for a pharmacist working at a standalone store to transfer to different standalone store from what I would gather

he's more concern with job security. cvs inside target is not meeting target sales goal. cvs is not driving footprints to target as expected. its hard to say how the future will hold.

how many hours do target pharmacists usually work?? most of their pharmacies are open 128 hours biweekly so is it safe to assume that each rph work 64 hours biweekly (Staff and manager)?? (my state doesn't have any law about manager has to work 40 hrs per week)

Most targets CVS's here are open 10am-7pm and closed on Sundays. I can't imaging these being around in 5 years

This is an interesting bit of information. Wouldn't it be a riot if CVS just shut down all of their Target pharmacies? Are they contractually obligated to keep operating them? Could Target restart their pharmacy business if CVS wanted out?

A sup told me that eventually CVS will start cutting down on tech and RPH hours of Target/CVS stores (they're operating with A TON right now, way way more than compared to a regular CVS). As a result, many RPH and techs will be let go. Just an FYI for any Target/CVS people.

I'm sure Target has the deal set up so that CVS cannot close the store or change the store hours. All CVS can do is cut staff and I doubt many of these Target stores have pharmacist overlap to begin with.

Now if CVS wants to close low volume CVS stores and move the scripts into Target do they keep the Target pharmacist or move the CVS pharmacist into the Target and cut the Target pharmacist? That would be my main concern.

We (target pharmacists/employees before the buy out) were told that cvs would not be allowed to shut down any pharmacies inside a target without targets permission. I'm sure target could open them back up but would have to buy them back or allow cvs to close it and reopen it on their own. Target was losing money on them though so not sure why they would. This whole transgender bathroom thing really seems to be hurting them even further, so at least for the short term I don't see them buying back the pharmacies as an option.

I do enjoy seeing cvs putting ads on Facebook for the cvs in target. 99% of the comments on there are negative saying how much people hate cvs and won't shop at target anymore.

When I was an intern at Target for rotations they had THREE pharmacist at one store and overlap every day. The store I was at wasn't even busy.

If that's the case then yeah someone is getting cut for sure. If the store is under 300 I'd rather have more techs than the extra pharmacist anyways but we know CVS will cut the tech hours too.

They will get cut. Target pharmacies right now are operating with excessive tech hours in comparison to CVS stores. My friend does 900 scripts and he gets 120-130 tech hours with some overlap. A normal CVS store would have 70-80 tech hours at the most. Tech hours will be cut easily. RPH will be cut slowly. They will eventually merge Target stores into CVS districts so sup positions will be eliminated too for Target people.

LOL 900 with 130? I remember we did 2,300 on 168 one week

I got word that Target will be operating wit ht he same hours for the next year b/c they will roll out more metrics for them to learn. After that, fair game.

But yes, if normal CVS has those hours, we would be leaving our stores 2-3 hours early lol.

Thats pretty much how my store is. No overlap so we use some extra pharm hours but we do 2300 on about 170-175 tech hours

The word is big changes are going to Target.

No surprise here. It is just how CVS does things:

Step 1: tell employees nothing will change.

Step 2: change the computer system; add metrics

Step 3: replace upper management

Step 4: BAM! Surprise suckers!

I left target when i found out about the acquisition. I worked 42 base hours.

Here are some of the things they promised back in April of 2015:
-No target cvs pharmacies would be closed r. I've already seen one gone.
-Tech hours would not change for one year. You can guess on this one, AND it's been one year
-No RPh would lose their job. I was one of many who left voluntarily.
Both of the Rx Business Partners in Central & North Texas (target job title for Rx district manager) "resigned"
That one was the most obvious for me.

Here's the most important one for your thread:
They said anyone could float at freestanding CVS if they wanted to.

However, I don't get it.

Why bother applying to Target/CVS?
Why not just apply straight to CVS?

If you heard that Targets are "easier" you've been misinformed.
Their volume is low, but my old store is being crucified (metrics, New staff, tech hours slashed), and that's taking into consideration that my old store was one of the "busy" targets.

Here's what I think is going to happen to Target Pharmacists:
CVS gave them a year to be frogs & sit in the pot of hot water. The floor is about to drop out and they're either going to get canned or be floaters.
