so im not taking the august mcat but im wondering if the mechanism of how taste buds detect sweetness as opposed to bitterness, for example, would be something they'd ask on the mcat? im really just trying to grade the level of detail...

IF THEY DID ASK SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THE INFORMATION REQUIRED WOULD BE GIVEN IN THE PASSAGE.

tHEY COULD ASK ANYTHING WITHIN THE CONTREXT OF TASTE BUDS, FOR EXAMPLE:

THEY GIVE YOU A PASSASGE ABOUT THE WAY TASTEBUDS DETECT SWEETNESS VS BITTERNESS. tHEY CAN ASK ABOUT A MUTATION ON THE GENE THAT CODES FOR THAT TASTEBUD, THEY CAN ASK ABOUT INHERITANCE PATTERNS (ASSUMING THEY TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT THE GENOTYPICALL TRAIT OF TASTEBUDS), ETC.

Even in med school that kind of info is really not crucial. If you want remember something like the sweet pathway is by Gs, but that's really all you should consider.
