So I am trying to figure this out and can not find an answer.

Taking the DAT, Paying AADSAS, Paying ADEA to send scores, all other costs... $1000+

They all add up, how does this affect when filing taxes? Can I use this as a deduction? I had an accountent tell me may be able to actually use it as a credit (he was not sure either)?

Anyone good with taxes, where do I put these costs as they do add up to quite a bit.

Also, I am not currently enrolled in school if that makes a different. 2008 was my first year out of school.

thanks in advance

wow great question ... anyone?

ok, so I have been searching and searching...

looks like I can not claim any of the fees because I was not a qualified student in 2008...

2008 was the only year I have been out of school... The link above has several links to the IRS website too.

Can anyone shed some more light on this?

Did I have to be enrolled in school in 2008?

This site has some good information for people figuring education credits in general. As to your specific question, you can't deduct the expenses. The accountant you talked to was probably confused as to what kinds of expenses you were talking about because there are education credits, but you must be enrolled in at least one class and pay qualifying expenses. For a more complete look check out http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p970.pdf.

The only thing that qualifies is Tuition, Fees, and Books for an accredited school. (per my accountant)
