Hi - I'm just starting to work through the TBR general chemistry books, and I'm having a lot of trouble with the fast math. A bunch of the questions seem require a good deal of calculations, and require them quickly. Also, some answer choices would require an understanding of the solution out to the second decimal place or so (eg -- distinguishing between .28 and .22 to get a correct answer).

In the intro to the section, TBR warns that their problems may require "slightly more" calculations than on the MCAT. What's the degree of difference? (So far I've only taken 1 practice MCAT, and it seemed fine in terms of math, but not sure how representative it was). The math, precision, and speed of calculation required by these TBR problems is worrying me.

Thanks!

They are over preparing you. This is crucial. On many recent tests there have been tons of calculations. Many people struggled to finish or barely finished. Consequently, this caused them to get lower scores than usual because the aamcs have less math. Don't worry, you will adjust. The real mcat will have a greater disparity. However, how do you improve rounding skills? You do this by being forced to round more accurately so when you get to the exam it's a joke. Keep plugging along. 🙂

Just keep trucking through! I found them very difficult at first too, but you get much better and quicker as you get through the books.
