Hello I have questions about distensibility, elasticity, compliance, and how that relates together. There were two passages from TBR Cardio section that I got wrong below-- My questions are bolded.
One of the passages from Cardio section, p. 117, said that arteries are more distensible than veins because they are thicker and stronger... So is distensibility is a measure of rigidness?
However, in another passage, pg. 125 it said that compliance in the aorta as you get older decreases and it's defined by delta V/delta P... [B ]So is compliance a measure of stretchability?[/B]
How is this so because I thought aorta doesn't like to stretch in Volume because it needs to maintain its high pressure.
And how does elasticity play into this? I know that arteries have a lot of elastic tissue, but they are defined to be the least distensible and pretty compliant.
