Pg. 117 Book II of TBR G-chem: "conversion of a liquid to a solid is referred to as fusion"

is this a mistake? Isn't fusion = melting = solid to liquid?
 
I thought fusion was melting, so I agree with you.

If they are talking about the heat of fusion though, that is the heat you must add to melt or remove to freeze.

Indeed, fusion describes the phase change from solid to liquid, not the reverse. The book is incorrect. As noted above, "heat of fusion" or "enthalpy of fusion" describes the magnitude of the energy required to change phase between liquid and solid in either direction.
