How difficult is it to get into TCOM and can out of staters apply?

Practically impossible. Most Texas schools are required to admit at least %90 Texas residents. You should probably have really strong ties to the state of Texas and really good numbers to even have a chance. Only 7 out of state students matriculated in 2004.

They are supposed to fill at least 90% of their class with Texas resident. I think U.S. News stat showed 180 applied from out of state. 23 were granted interview and 9 were accepted. It is possible but very competitive.

How about for Texas residents? I heard that those with 28+ MCAT scores and a 3.7 GPA usually enter....it seems like its more like an "M.D" offering school.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. TCOM is just a great school and alot of very qualified people apply. There are out of state folks who do apply and get excepted, but the majority, by state law are from TX. From what I understand, at graduation TCOM grads get residency programs at the best places in TX and around the country. This includes places like Yale and Johns Hopkins.

Ofcourse, TCOM is a great school. What I was trying to say was that I felt that TCOM had a high competition level which is sort of similar to M.D schools. Thats what I think.....correct me if I'm wrong

The entrance stats are practically identical to many of the allopathic schools in texas. Since all the schools are on the same match system, this makes sense.

For what it is worth I went to an information session in late august at TCOM. I had never visited before (I live in the Dallas area though.) The school is awesome. The facilities are great. I think the admissions director guy said only 1 student didn't pass the step 1 exam. That puts the pass rate at over 99%. I do remember him saying most students end up taking both COMLEX and USMLE exams. In my volunteering experience as a pre-med I have volunteered with a DO resident from TCOM. He is an all around awesome physician and I would love to be like him (that sounds cheesy?) Anyway, for some reason I don't ever read a lot of people talking about TCOM on here so I thought I was toss out my opinion. Good luck!

Because us Texans like to keep TCOM our little secret. 😉

Seriously though, I think a lot of it has to do with TCOM participating in TMDSAS instead of AACOMAS and having state school enrollment restrictions. It tends to keep out-of-staters away. Whether that is good or bad is another issue...
