Hey all!

I just received a phone call from TCOM about scheduling an interview for September 25th, anyone else in this interview group? Also, I was wondering if any of you other TCOM interviewees that have already interviewed could give me an idea of what to expect and any particular questions/topics I should be prepared to answer? Thanks in advance!!

TCOM interviews 1 student per day. It's going to be everyone on the admissions committee with you in a room. Bring your diaper, it's going to be a wet day for you.

OP, its a closed file interview. They have your PS, essays and EC's. Review all of those plus the usual why do, why medicine, why this school stuff. Also, good idea to catch up on current healthcare events.

OP, its a closed file interview. They have your PS, essays and EC's. Review all of those plus the usual why do, why medicine, why this school stuff. Also, good idea to catch up on current healthcare events.

+1 They don't see your GPA or MCAT score, but have access to your personal statement, essays, and chronology of activities.

I always thought open file meant they could see your AACOMAS and secondary.. Since AACOMAS + secondary = GPA/MCAT/PS/Activities/Essays, mathematically speaking, TCOM's "file" status is more open than closed. They see (i.e. "open file") 3/5 things on your primary and don't see (i.e. "closed file") 2/5 things. More open than closed.

I was asked about a disparity between my good MCAT score and a failed chemistry class two years before in my open file interview at NOVA, sorry I meant NSU-COM. Of course just because they don't usual ask about GPA and MCAT stuff in an open file doesn't mean they can't or won't.
Honestly, unless you have some crazy skeletons in the closet, open file vs closed file and what kinds of questions they may ask are kind of moot points. You should be ready at this point to explain anything about yourself in a convincing and positive manner.

Probably the best post in this thread. I don't know if DMU or Touro-CA are open or closed, but at both interviews I was also asked about the disparity between my low GPA and high MCAT.

Best thing to do is just be prepared to talk about anything on your application. This will better prepare you for all your interviews, anyways. GL!

I agree on the definition between open and closed file. That's what it means to me.

I was also a little surprised at being asked why I did so well on the MCAT after failing gen chem I. I mean, I got an a in it the next semester from the very same teacher and went on to rock the rest of my chem classes including orgo and a semester of bio with only one B+. Is it hard to understand why I could have gone on to do well on the MCAT? Lol
That's ok, like I said, an interview is a chance for them to see who you are and what your motivations are. If you're sure why you're going into medicine it shouldn't be hard to interview no matter what they ask. Kind of. 😉

Sorry about creating the whole open file vs closed file debate. I pointed it out because it was from the CIB, which obviously has a lot more correct information than any of us Premeds.
