Anyone been assigned TDY en route (in my case for OBC) to first PDS?

How does moving work? Will they pack our belongings prior to TDY enroute and put it in storage until I reach my PDS?

This would be nice given the fact that I wouldn't have to pay rent but would get BAH for my family.

Where is my pay taxed? I will receive BAH for the fam in their home of record location. But I will be in Texas for TDY, do I pay taxes there or based on HOR? makes a difference as HOR has State income tax.

thanks

Give someone in you family power of attorney and they can sign for your goods on the receiving end while you are TAD.

You pay state taxes based on your home of record. You could file paperwork to change this with your personnel office.

This whole issue is a big mystery for me as well.

I will be TDY (OBC) en route to wherever I match for internship. I have been in the Army a while, but never done this before.

I would love to have it explained to me because my wife is very "change averse" and wants to know way in advance what will happen.

Do I move them to (Ft. Lewis, Ft. Sam Houston, Walter Reed, Schofield Barracks, Ft. Gordon) BEFORE I go to OBC and then catch up with them--or--do I go to OBC, leave the family where they are, go home, THEN move to (see afore mentioned psychology internship list)? What is the time line?

Should I do a DITY move?

We will probably be short on cash too.

Any insights into this process?

My thought would be to try to move them after. The arrangements can be made ahead of time, but do the move when you are on AD.
