Hey everyone,
I was just curious, what would you need to teach at a podiatric medical school as a DPM. Would you have to do a dual degree such as DPM/PHD?

Just a DPM... and I'm sure that a good name residency and at least a handful of publications would help out.

You are correct, but politics also plays a significant role in the process. Unfortunately, there is a "good 'ol boy" network still in force in some of our colleges and to break into the lecture circuit. Fortunately, it's not as prevalent in the lecture circuit as it was years ago. In the past, Dr. A would sponsor a seminar in an exotic resort and invite certain docs that would receive a nice remuneration, than THOSE docs would sponsor a similar seminar at another exotic resort and invite the other doc to lecture and receive remuneration and so on and so on, etc.

In those days if you looked at the syllabus for seminars it was always the same 10-15 names all the time.

Teaching is always admirable, and hooking up with one of the colleges is a great thing but often difficult and frustrating. I know of many well qualified and excellent doctors that attempted this, and never were able to get through the door, yet there were other's that filled those positions who in my opinion were less qualified, but had better connections.

So, if teaching at one of the colleges is in your game plan, my recommendation would be to plan ahead and start planting the seed EARLY to make as many connections as possible to increase your chances of obtaining that position.
