TPR: I only teach gen chem. I first took a self-timed test for the section I was interested in (originally physics) and after I passed, was invited for an audition. My instructions were to prepare a 5-10 min. lesson on a non-academic subject. After that, I heard back that they wanted me, so I had to fly up to NJ for a weekend (20 hours) of training. Btw, out of the three people at my training weekend, only I passed (although the other two were horrible!). At my office, training is paid $6/hr. Then, I was certified to teach gen chem only. If you want to teach another subject, you have to train for it too. I think at Kaplan, they give you detailed lesson plans. At TPR, you get to decide (more or less) what to cover from each chapter (what is important, what is not so important) and how to cover it. So it's a bit more work as far as prepping goes. My office pays an entry-rate of $25/hr for MCAT teachers. Raises depend on student evaluations and test score improvements.
