teaching or research?

so I have a free year and need a job for the next year while I am applying to med schools...my options are either get a teaching job or a research position at my university? should I just go with what ill enjoy more or is one of them better for getting into med school?

It really depends on a lot of things. Do you like research? Do you feel like you have had enough research experience already? Remember, there are a handful of students who get into medical school each year with no research experience. If I personally had 2 years of research experience, and didn't feel ecstatic over it, I would teach now. I personally think teaching is a highly rewarding experience.

i was in a lab for a year and a half. I didn't really enjoy it and haven't done anything substantial. I just worked on my mentor's project, helping her, never had my own project so there isn't much I would be able to say about it to med schools...

The teaching job would be in a HS, teaching chem and bio, i have had a lot of tutoring experience

If you have research experience already then just do whatever you like best/pays the best. It will be the last year of true freedom you have before you commit your life to your medical education...

I think it really depends on what the school specifically look for. Usually, I would assume research will work in your favor better than teaching at a HS. I looked at tons of applications online and research seems to be more of a push.

Either can be a plus if you are enthusiastic and show some passion in the interview when you are asked about what you are doing now.
