Have you ever heard of someone working as a tech with an intern license? I am currently looking to get an intern position at my current job but they can only give me 8 hours. I need more hours to pay bills. I called the state board and they said its allowed if the company wants to classify you as a tech still. I am thinking of doing this so I can work more hours, but still do intern duties at the same time.

Yes.

You can work down in duties... not up.

Would you still be able to counsel on medications? Even if you weren't wearing the white coat, I ask because at my store interns and pharmacist wear white coats, techs wear a blue one. Would it be too confusing to the patients or do you think they would understand?

Most patients have no idea who they're actually speaking to behind the counter, regardless of what color the coat is. There's no legal reason why you couldn't wear a white coat, you would just have to clear it with the management.

And don't kid yourself on this - you will end up working as an intern at a techs salary. Your duties and responsibilities will be far above your pay grade, so you have to ask yourself if that's what you really want out of this job.

Its not that I dont want to work at the intern pay its just that they can only give me 8 hours a week as an intern. So i would like to work as a tech possibly until they can give me the 16 hours i need in order to afford my bills. I also want to get as much experience doing pharmacist duties as I can so I am willing to work a couple of months as an intern with tech pay until they can give me more hours.
