How exactly do you collect teeth? Do you just go into the office and ask them for teeth? You leave a jar there for them to put the extracted in (but it doesn't seem so nice since they need do extra work for you) or you shadow them all day to get those teeth? But it is not like they will have patient to extract everyday. So what exactly is the best method?

You just give them a jar w/ formalin and ask for teeth.
I DA-ed in a clinic where requests for teeth was always present. Used to keep the collection jar near the cleaning area. Hence no extra effort.

The University of Minnesota provides a jar of formalin to accepted students.

You can also use a 1:10 bleach/water dilution in the jar until school starts and you have access to formalin. You don't want to leave the teeth in bleach for extended periods of time, so be sure to sterilize in formalin and then put in tap water later.

Go to a public health department dental clinic, you'll probably get more teeth in one day than you would need for a whole year. And they are more than happy to help you out.

It is not rare to see 20+ teeth extracted per day at these places, or at least the one I worked/interned at.

O one more question when I give the jar to the dentist,
I think i will be using 1:10 bleach/water, how long can I keep them inside that jar before I dmg it?
Also for those who collected the teeth already do the dentist autoclave the teeth for u? Because the instruction given to me involve autoclaving it.

You going to temple? my guess is that we'll be autoclaving them at the school...

This is when it pays of to have worked with oral surgeons. One day not too long ago, one of the oral surgeons I work with was like, "hey, shouldn't you start collecting teeth?" And I didnt know, so I was like, "Huh, why would I have to do that?" Then he said, "Oh dont worry about it then, ill take care of it. By the time you go to dent school, you'll have jars of teeth!"

I didnt get that conversation until now. But I guess I'll have a lot of teeth by the time I go to d-school, since im still a 2nd year rite now.

Jars. Sweet.

got a ton of it from the terrestrial ecologist in my bio dept.

try asking an old professor, or someone else that might preserve specimens as part of their research.

wanna get lots of teeth, go to a place that makes dentures. i got mine from an "Affordable Dentures" here in town. when i went in there, they already had a bucket of teeth that had amalgam that i had free reign to go through and pick the teeth i needed. that's a good place to start.
