Once you get your score back, who do you tell? Family only? Non-med friends? Close med friends? Inside or outside your school?

Does this change if it's a good or bad score?

I feel like it might be a bad idea to tell anyone besides family my score. I don't wanna be seen as a number to others, even if (especially if) it's a good score.

I'm only telling my family. Telling friends gets weird.

Edit: Words to live by... "I was happy with it."

whoever your comfortable with telling. how did test day go for you man?

Strange, here in my country everyone broadcasts their scores, but its also common knowledge there's a fair bit of hyperbole being practiced, lol.

Haha well if someone asks me specifically , I just tell them.. Otherwise on the generic q ''How did you do ? '' I just say '' pretty decent , thanks!''

Test day went alright. Felt pretty brutal but I guess that's to be expected. Reading some of your reports made me feel better.

Haven't gotten my score yet. Of course, don't mind telling you guys. But friends in my med school, might get weird.

This is where it really gets difficult. I would never offer my score. But when someone tells me theirs, I feel bad not telling mine; it feels like a trade, where I didn't live up to my part of the deal. I know it's my right to tell or not tell regardless, but still. This happened a few days ago, and I couldn't help but tell him my NBME score. Also if they specifically ask for my score, I would feel kinda bad saying no.

@HereWeGo21 Yeah I dunno , maybe its different in the States where there is competition between the med students and stuff , here its just an incentive for others to try , to show them that it is actually possible if you put in the hard work..

People I tell my exact score to: parents, advisors, residency program directors. And also SDN (though it wouldn't surprise me if anyone from my school on this message board somehow figured out who I was haha)

Everyone else if they ask: I give a general range (i.e., I scored in the 250s, scored around 90th percentile, or sometimes I mention how my practice NBMEs were in the 240s and I ended up scoring about 10 points higher on my real deal).

Once you tell your exact score, your name gets tossed around with that number forever. I'm sometimes surprised how well people remember people's scores. And not that I care that much, but sometimes it's silly when some people at my school say that they can give better Step 1 advice because they scored a 258 while someone scored a 251 -__- haha. That's why I prefer just giving a general range.
