As a PA I would always tell the patients after their first post-op visit, what our goals were, what the plan was, and where we go from there. I always made sure they felt comfortable to call at any time for anything. Our nurses had been in the industry for years and could answer nearly all of the questions, and if they didn't they came to me. If I didn't know we would go to the physician. However we had it laid out with instructions, etc on what was expected and what was the norm. Anything not present in the norm, they should call the office. Don't feel embarrassed about calling the office, most docs would rather you call, then stew, atleast I would.
