Could someone explain to me how Temple, and any other schools that use a group interview, actually goes through this ineterview process? Is there like one interviewer and like a large group of applicants, and the interviewer just calls out individuals to answer questions? Im just not understanding what to be prepared for here...

I hear you,
I have an interview at Temple and I just don't know what to think. I have to give a five minute presentation on my accomplishments and there will be an essay.

That 5 minute presentation would be a great opportunity to convince them that you are who they need in their school. That would be exciting to give.

besides temples, what other schools have group interviews?

jpn123, how did you find out about the 5 minute presentation at Temple? Will it be with the confirmation package?

Having interviewed at Temple last year, I think I can give some insight on this issue. First of all, that 5 minute presentation that they ask you to prepare, dont spend too much time on it! When I interviewed there, they didnt even mention that presentation, and in the end no one had to do it. I have no idea why they would ask us to prepare a presentation, and then not even bring it up on the interview day....******ed! Who knows, maybe this year, they will ask you to present, but dont be surprised if you are sitting there with all of this interesting stuff to present and end up not using it.

As for the group interview, our applicant group (of 5 applicants) was split into 2 interview-groups. The group with 3 applicants had 2 interviewers, and the other group of 2 applicants (my group) had 1 interviewer. Bascially, we were asked a question, and we each took our turns in answering. Point of advice: dont hog the stage!! This will not look good in the eyes of your interviewers, so be gracious with sharing time between you and your fellow applicants. I think the main reason Temple uses the group interview is to see how you interact with potential classmates. So when you are answering the questions be sure not only to address the interviewers, but also the other applicants (ie make eye contact with everyone in the room). And dont worry, because your in a group, the questions wont be too personal, so you wont be talking about grades or anything that may include personal info.

Good Luck!

I interview their on 11/12 and will inform you guys about the way the 5 min presentation works.

interviewed at temple on 09/26. we didnt have to do this 5 minute presentation. although, if you were to PREPARE to speak about yourself for 5 minutes, youd have no problem answerin the questions that will more than likely be asked during their group interview. consider that.

Too bad you picked the wrong day to interview.😀

I actually did have to do a little "presentation" last year when I interviewed but it was more like 2 minutes and it was just a brief introduction of myself to the rest of the group during the interview...nothing formal. Just be prepared to say where you're from, what undergrad you're at or attended, what got you into dentistry, hobbies, research, etc....the basics. Not all of the interviewers will do this but some will so it's better to be prepared. As for the essay, there were some difficult questions but it really was nothing to stress over. They are looking for quality, not quantity so don't worry about filling up the page. It really was an easy interview compared to other schools. Good luck.
