Can someone please provide some insight into Temple's basic science courses as compared to other schools??

For example, in terms of credit hours, U. Buffalo first year's take 22 credits and 25 credits their first and second semesters, respectively, while at Temple they take 18 and 16.

Is this to say that Temple has an less demanding didactic program, or are credit hours not a true representation of coursework?

Thanks for any input!

Temple starts off slower. The first semester is pretty laid back but let me assure you that it catches up pretty quick. Also, Temple does not have summer break, so they can spread the credits that way.

desi is somewhat right....
we do have summers off (for now) but even if the summers were to be eliminated, there weren't any ideas to add any extra classes to "spread the credits". where it gets really intense is during sophomore year....i've heard people have 10 exams during finals week. =oP on top of projects due etc.... Temple's philosophy behind making 1st year relatively lighter than other schools is to ease the transition between undergrad and professional school. I'm not saying the 1st year is a piece of cake...you are kept very busy...trust me....😛

Thanks for your feedback Desi and Cusp.

I've heard that basic sciences are not Temple's forte. I wonder aloud how that affects students' prep for boards part I.

Cusp, have you started your "summer session" with physio yet?? I've taken Physio at U. Buff dental....what do you think the chances are of me getting an excemption??

Hey cusp,

What time do your days usually start and what time do they end? For first year that is......is it from 8a to 5p, like most other schools, or does it vary, depending on what classes you have on certain days? Thanks!

hey xc..
classes end at different times during different semesters,
our first semester schedule was like this:
Dental materials: M 8:30-9:30
biochem: m, w 9:30-11:30, friday 10-11:30 (with optional workshop from 12:30-2...
Histology: t, th 8-11:30 (lab first then lecture....sometimes lab will start later depending on dr. marino...he's cool....=o))
behavioral science: w 8:30-9:30
preventive dentistry f 9:30-10:30
and restorative lab/lecture: t, th 12:30-whenever you wanna go home from lab..but the profs only stay until 4:30...unless it's snowing...which case you'll probably won't find anyone there...=oP

so yeah...the schedule isn't too bad....sophomore year is the killer one though...
