I'm a PA resident and have been accepted to Temple. I am most likely going to be accepted to Maryland as well. If I do get accepted to Maryland I'm going to have a tough choice to make. Does anyone have an opinion on where they think I should go? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maryland...just because.....jane's addiction

i would personally say maryland. of course it all depends what you want and are looking for. I dont know as much about temple but maryland is a great school, and definitely one with a lot of history. the state of the art facility can not be matched. it simply is amazing, high tech, lots of lighting. personally I also liked their clerkship program that allows you to gain additional exposure to specialities starting 3rd or 4th year.
now both schools are known to produce great clinicians, although at temple you may see even more patients. maryland is known for their strong clinical aspect as well. location of both schools, kinda ehh. you'll have to decide where you will be more happy. good luck! 👍

...Maryland's new facilities are enticing, but as a PA resident you'd be crazy to pass up Temple.

You'll get great clinical experience at either schools... you would just pay much less for it at Temple

Instate at Temple is around $175,000 while Maryland out of state is around $200,000 so the difference is not that great (this is the case for all PA schools so there is little advantage in being from PA). Maryland offers state of the art facilities and while not being in a fantastic location is in a much better location than Temple (Trust me I’m from Philadelphia). With regard to clinical education both schools are very good. I would and have picked Maryland over Temple.

25 g's is a lot....

I'd have to say Maryland over Temple. Temple is a good school with a good reputation, but tehre's just a lot of problems there. If your patients don't pay, your responsible ot get credit for the work. You do ALL your own labwork. The facilities are a little old. There's two tests on a dent Sim machine and you get chucked into the clinic. I asked the students and they said they felt unprepared to enter the clinic.

Maryland has that gorgeous facility and you get your own chair which is a nice feature. I'd deifnately pick Maryland over Temple, you can always pay the extra money back later.

HAHHA.....dont u think at any school, students will feel unprepared when they get into the clinic? Huge difference b/w working on plastic teeth than on an actual human

TO answer the OP's question, i'd goto Maryland.....brand new facilities, great clinical, decent tuition.....

Weird, I paid $29,000 and change for in-state at Temple this year, so with my limited math skills I think that comes out to somewhere in the neighborhood of $120,000 over the four years. Not quite sure where Gargamel is getting his info from.

I got my info from one of the tables someone posted on this site. It does not agree with other posted information (don't beleive everything you read on the web). According to predents.com Temple instate is $117,192 and Maryland out of state is $141,644 (this does not include cost of living which shoud be similar for Philadelphia and Baltimore). The difference is $24,452 (the only number here I know is correct). Once again I would (and did) pick Maryland.

the out-of-state budget UMD gave me was over a quarter million dollars...

a dentist is a dentist is a dentist. go to your state school, save that extra $80-90K and put it towards your practice, your home, your family, etc.

The out of state budget Maryland sent you includes cost of living. The posted numbers reflect tuition only. Cost of living should be about equal in Baltimore and Philadelphia (possably a little less in Baltimore) so the difference is tuition. Go to the program that you beleives fits you best. Both have positives and negatives.
