They both are on the rough side, I mean where they are located. Which would you pick to spend the next 4 years?

I had to make the same decision--I was admitted to both schools as well. I ended up picking Maryland.

I believe that both schools will give you excellent clinical experience and make you into a great dentist. I felt that Maryland was in a safer neighborhood than Temple, and I liked that many students lived walking distance from campus (unlike Temple where they all seemed to talk about a ~30 minute commute). Plus, I mean, you saw Maryland's facility--amazing.

Do you happen to be from Pennsylvania or Maryland? The financial difference for in state vs out of state tuition could definitely bias your decision! I'm from Florida, so... I'm going to be super in debt no matter where I end up, so money wasn't a deciding factor for me.

Let me know what you decide on! 🙂

On initial appearances Maryland looks rough, but after living here for the academic year it really isn't that bad. Still keep your wits about you but I regularly walk home at night from the gym or school alone and never have I felt threatened. Now there are some areas of this city that are nasty such as well on the other side of MLK and parts of the east side of town. Nice thing is that the hospital and dental school are part of the same medical block so there is heightened security for the whole area. At night it seems that a cop is always right around the corner making rounds. Also the school offers a complementary van at night for anyone who is weary of making the walk home. I know several of my female friends utilize this regularly.

Temple for sure!

Are you in state for either school? I really got a good feeling from both schools on the interview day. In another post I saw someone describe Maryland's facilities as "droolworthy", and that's quite fitting. I believe Temple is closing that gap with new classrooms and clinics though. The sketchy surrounding areas didn't bother me too much to be honest, and I just put my deposit down for Temple (in state). Let us know what you decide and good luck.
