Hey guys,

So I have been accepted to Temple and Maryland and I'm torn!

Temple is my state school and closer to home (an hour and a half), and while not in the greatest location it will provide a lot of clinical experience. Also, the renovations make me feel better about their poor facilities.

Maryland's new facilities and state of the art technology makes it a great choice for me and very hard to turn down. I also loved the location!

I felt so comfortable at both, and I am having a hard time deciding between the two. Anyone who has input it would be greatly appreciated.

At this point I want to specialize, will either program give me an edge over the others?

A little confused on what to do....Can people please give me their input about the two schools? Also, I was wondering how the schedules are at the two schools. Could any current student please explain to me how this works or show me an example of a schedule? Thanks so much!

Both are excellent clinical schools. You can specialize at any school you just have to hit the ground running. It's not the school that gets you into a specialty program, it's your own hard work. That being said, figure out which school you will leave with the lowest amount of debt. That's the school for you.

go to temple. you'll save money and go to an excellent clinical school. many students specialize and many others are ready to jump right into private practice.

the neighborhood is obviously not amazing, but you wont live there and will appreciate the people who live there as they will be your patients.

I say temple because of the money.

Yes, at maryland we have great facilities but at the end of the day it is EXPENSIVE to attend here as an out of state student. I love this school, but in 4 years time you will be a dentist wherever you go. Patients could care less where you went and when you graduate and you will care less about how nice the facilities were.

Also, I don't think either school will give you an edge against the other when it comes to specializing.

Congrats,

I just did the math based of estimated total expenses (tuition and cost of living) and if I get residency for my last two years, Maryland is only about $200 more expensive than Temple. I know residency is hard to get there but I was kinda suprised. With only 1 year of residence its $20,000 more expensive than Temple. This decision is tough!

How do you plan on getting residency? I've been devising unethical methods of getting in-state tuition hear for the past 2 years with no luck 🙂 Please share !

The woman at financial aid told me that you pretty much have to apply each year and just hope for the best. She also suggested talkein to other students who got residency and see what the provided to prove residency and try that. I know its not realistic to expect but I would try every year cause it would save so much money. I dont understand how you can live somewhere for two years and a school still not consider you a resident... i dont get how that works!

its not that you arent "residing" in the state, the thing that gets you is on the app theres a statement "Did you come to the state for the purpose of going to school?" to which you need a darn good response if you want them to buy into the fact that youre a "resident"

all the people that i know that got instate status here at maryland are married with kids, their wives usually work somehow, most own their homes, participate in the community actively i.e actively serving within church groups, kids are in school, cub scouts, youth soccer etc etc...

if you cant do those things i dont see them giving it to you ever. my advice is to go to the school that is cheaper right now because you have no way of knowing how it will work out.... .but as always good luck with whatever you do
