The days are long, and the years fly by.


Three thousand, six hundred, and fifty days make up a decade. Though some days drag, feeling like 72 hours are taking up the slots of the humble 24 that tick, tick, tick by, others are over in a flash. Leaving behind only wistful thoughts of what could have been, or joyful memories to cling to in times of sorrow.


It was winter. Sometimes it felt like spring - but it was a false spring. A spring to raise the hopes of all who worship the sun, only to crush them under a smothering blanket of snow, a slick of ice, or a wind that sends chills down the spine and deep into the bones. Weather that changed in an instant, giving a glimpse of sun before an arctic blast of wind took the breath from the lungs.


Weather wasn't the only thing that changed in an instant.


An errant snowflake of suspicion fell from the sky. Just a flurry.

The storm, slowly building. Biding its time.

It seemed it would hold off. The sun even threatened to break through the clouds.

But then -


the squall hit.


Snowflakes everywhere. Piling up. Just like the votes.

They came so rapidly, it was a veritable avalanche.


Some called it a once in every 10 years storm. Those with the taste for drama called it the storm of the century.

A century. Because one decade wasn't enough. Ten decades though... that was something.


But for this group, even 1 decade was too many. Horrified by the notion that 2016 was a decade ago, they violently cast the idea aside, banished to the darkest recesses of the brain. It couldn't hurt them there.
