Night 1
The night was dark. Quiet. No one stirred, the group was quiet. Everything was closed down.
In the distance, a dog barked, seemingly in conversation with no one - or maybe with itself. No one was ever sure, including the dog.
Though the night seemed still, the thoughts of many were racing. Some were elated, thrilled by the good luck of the day. One person's good luck is another's misfortune, though, and thoughts were racing through their three minds. How to recover from the loss of a teammate, how to proceed from here. Continuing to strategize through the night.
They weren't the only ones with racing thoughts. Some found themselves frantically trying to recalibrate, or thinking about the hypotheticals that the light of day might bring. What if they had mistakenly hitched themselves to a mistake? What if their conviction would be their downfall? What if this was going to be the end of them when they weren't the right call? What if? A
blazing bright light drew the eyes of many. Though earlier, some wondered whether the low hum constantly emitting from the light source could be more sinister workings in the background, after taking some time to consider it (a decade, give or take), the focus on the light shifted. It drew the eye in a comforting way, seeming safe even though it burned the retinas if stared at too long.
To the three, the choice was clear: the light had to be dimmed. There was one way to extinguish it.
