This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
someone today brought me a big orange letter "b". she didn't know orange was my favorite color or that it had special meaning today. i take it as a positive sign.

new mailman started today. arrgh! mail won't come till late. pass the antacid please.

I've been...........
waitlisted. crap
............with no rank. double crap.

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted 🙂 and good luck to those still waiting. :luck: it will all be over soon

So how does the alternate list for Tennessee work? And does anyone know roughly how many people get called off the waitlist? Is there a separate waitlist for instate and out of state people or are we all on one waitlist? I'm out of state and wasn't accepted into my instate (because they hate me) and I've been waitlisted for Missouri so now I'm freaking out. I'm going to call but I just wanted to see if anyone on here knew anything.

Man I'm SO mad and happy at the same time, I think I'm going to explode.

p.s that was the most horrible waitlist letter I've ever read. i hope no one else gets one.

I know this probably won't help you much, but last year he said you could call and ask. He said he would tell you if you were in the top or bottom half, but wouldn't tell you your exact rank. Maybe he changed his mind and will tell you rank this year?

I got put on the waitlist last year but never got called off of it. I don't know how I stood on it though, so I'm sure you still have a good chance at getting in. I re-applied this year and got accepted, so don't give up!

I'm reasonably sure that the instate and out of state waitlists are separate. And I would guess that the out of state list moves atleast a little more than the instate list, but I wouldn't even begin to hazard a guess at how much it moves.

There is no way to predict how the wait list will move. In my class, 16 out of the 70 students starting came off waitlist. In the following year, NO ONE came off waitlist. I don't know how the Class of 2013 fared, but it could have been either way.

Hi,
I was wondering if those numbers are for the IS or OOS waitlist?
Thanks!

I got my UT letter today and was accepted!! yay 🙂 However, I will be turning it down since I have accepted a position at Auburn 😀. So hopefully one of you ISers will come off the waitlist! Good luck to everyone..

Awesome 🙂

I was also accepted to UT- got my letter this evening. My spot will be going to another very deserving OOS'er however, as I recently received an acceptance to my IS school (big ups for IS tuition haha)

I really did like UT though and I thought all of the faculty and administration were SO nice!

Congrats to all that have gotten in!

I live in Colorado & haven't heard anything yet, but my mail is really slow, it takes a week to get a letter from my parents in Indiana!

Congrats on your acceptances

Accepted!! So, so excited!!

Congrats to those that got in 🙂

Ah, I didn't get in again this year. Today was the second worst day of my life. Last year when I didn't get in was the first, obviously.

I'm sorry 🙁 Hopefully next year you will have the happiest day of your life

Sorry Jam... I know that feeling! But hang in there, your time will come, as plenty of SDNers can attest.

Grats to those who have gotten in & good luck to those waiting!:xf:

I can tell you in our class people came that weren't even on the waitlist. I got waitlisted for class of 2010 and then just interviewed and was rejected for class of 2011 but I got a call in June saying they went through the waitlist and had open spots still... so don't give up hope if you were waitlisted.

Got my letter yesterday. My dad had to open it (I don't trust the campus mail, they've lost my things in the past) He seemed hesitant, since the pack was smaller than the one I got from KS. But I'm definitely stoked! Anyone aware of an orientation date or something? I don't have the letter in front of me, and can't seem to find anything online.

And good luck to all those that have yet to hear, and those on the waitlist. I know so many people turn down OOS offers, since they get much cheaper tuition IS!

It's another depressing day...I'm alternated again for the 4th school this year! I should be happy since this is my first application cycle - 4 denials & 4 alternates. Since I'm a non-traditional student, I don't have forever to keep applying year after year. Oh well...I guess I'll just be waiting it out for the rest of the spring/summer & hoping for the best.

Do all of the alternate letters say this? "....your position in rank order is high enough to make selection possible that may become available if initial offers are declined...." They make it sound like there is hope, but who knows, maybe they're just being kind.

Again, congrats to those that got in!
And thanks for listening to me vent.

Yup, I was waitlisted and my letter says the same thing. My mom said the same thing about the letter making it seem like there is hope but I think they are being kind and sugarcoating it...but that's just what I think and I'm still kinda mad so kindness isn't doing it for me at the moment.

I have mixed emotions, sad & like you, I'm also mad! For this interview I missed 3 O-chem classes (one being a lab that can't be made up), came home & had a test - needless to say I didn't do well. And.... I had to reschedule a physics test & take it early so I could leave for the interview. Could this interview have screwed up my school anymore? I think not! I wish they would just give us our rankings, I don't understand how that would hurt or affect anything.

I should apologize about venting so much here on the forum. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a downer & take away from the good news a lot of people are getting! I really am glad it is working out for some of you!

I did not know that! Wow! Your spot was just meant for you. I do seem to remember they were having a time of it getting the out of state students firmed up, but there was also some shifting on the in-state list. When I compared my phone and mail lists, I have 3 versions--the one they first sent out, the one later in the summer, and then the final one we all got. 16 of the people on my original list are people I never met.

And to the current wait-listers, if you got a letter saying you rank high enough to make your selection possible, take that at face value. I got an alternate letter from another school (Illinois) telling me that my rank made it UNLIKELY I would be selected. However, they called me in the week before classes started to offer me a spot, so you never know.

Question for all the current students....was your orientation during the week or on the weekend, and how far in advance was it? Or do you think they already have this info planned and could I call them to find out this early?

My family is trying to plan a trip for the weekend before school starts and I'm trying to figure out if it's gunna work.

If I remember correctly, there are orientation activities the weekend before. They aren't as long as on Monday and Tuesday of your first week, however. I can't remember if it was on Saturday or Sunday, but I think it was only 1 day of the weekend.

I think I remember it being all day on Saturday then Monday and Tuesday.

Yikes...ok, I might try calling the school to find out then. I don't want to miss orientation, but the trip is for Mom's 50th birthday.....

Yea I'd just give them a call and see. I hate to say it though, but it's unlikely you will be able to miss orientation. We had a guy get married the day of orientation and he still wasn't permitted to miss it. He did end up leaving about an hour early just to make it to his wedding on time.

I seem to remember the outdoor adventure being on Saturday and the White Coat Ceremony on Sunday. In any case, I would say the weekend before school starts is not a good time for a trip. They won't let you miss orientation. Seriously, you won't be allowed to miss it. Maybe you can take the trip the weekend BEFORE the weekend before school starts.

Part of the problem is that we were planning on going to the DCI finals in Indianapolis, not exactly something we can reschedule. Grrr....oh well, such is life, as much as it sucks I know Mom will understand. 🙁

So, when does class start? All I know is August😀

Classes begin Wednesday, August 18th. But you will be in orientation Saturday, Monday and Tuesday before that, and as I said, I believe the White Coat Ceremony occurs on Sunday. So for all intents and purposes, UTK owns you starting on Saturday, August 14th.

Are we going to be getting a books and supplies list soon (I'm guessing they're saving the bulk of the information and answers to our questions for a packet after we confirm that we will be attending, to save on postage and paper costs)?

Yes, you will. And I seriously recommend you refrain from buying all the books until you get some advice about which ones are truly needed from an upperclassman. Besides, books can be purchased throughout the semester and you can always find a reference copy in the library.

Classes begin Wednesday, August 18th.

I'm just silly enough to think that starting class on my birthday is probably the best present I could get considering that it's Vet School. 😀

Also, can someone else confirm that I am not crazy and that they have not asked for a deposit yet? I've reread my acceptance letter a ba-gillion times and there's nothing there, but I can't shake the feeling that maybe they left some sheet of paper out of mine. ><

I remember feeling the same way, Katryn. they really don't send you any more information than that until the summer. I really don't remember anything about a deposit, but its been a while since I did this.

There is no deposit. They consider it a Gentleman's (or Lady's) agreement. If you've said you're coming, they hold your spot. This is the south, after all. 🙂

so true! auburn's was only $40. i didn't even think that was the deposit. minnesota's was $500 😱

Oh, good. I'm atleast not crazy for that reason. After hearing(seeing?) some of the other school threads chats about deposits I was starting to think I'd just overlooked it. It still hasn't sunk in that I'm not going to have to apply again, so I'm mildly paranoid about loosing my spot. ><

so I'm mildly paranoid about loosing my spot. ><

ME TOO!! i don't think i'll feel ok about it until i'm registered for classes and sitting in the classroom on the first day. 🙂

LOL I know how you feel!!! I almost wish they'd ask for a nominal deposit, like $5, so that when they cash the check I KNOW that it's all for real, and I could stop being paranoid about whether or not they got my letter accepting my seat😀

I didn't realize how hard it would be to find someone giving out rabies vaccines. My doctor's office thought I was crazy, and the Health Department is out of them. Wonder if UT has a student health clinic that gives them out?

Dang, I thought that someone had news about being moved off the wait list! Has anyone heard more for those people?

UT has a student health clinic, but I have no idea if they carry the vaccine. Where are you located? I'm a local and the Knox co. health department didn't seem to have any shortage when I called earlier this week.

No, I haven't heard anything. I tried to call the school today, even though I know UTK won't start calling people until after the 15th, just to see if I could get a general idea of where I stood in the waitlist but both Dr. Brace and Ms. Shepherd weren't available. Oh well, I'm kinda afraid to find out anyway.

I'm 99% certain the student health clinic carries the vaccines. I don't know if requirements have changed, but they didn't require them for our class until the end of this semester since we start clinics in 2 weeks. You still have to pay for the vaccines but the student health insurance will cover a lot of the cost from what I understand from others in my class getting them (but it never hurts to check with insurance first).

I think you have to ask them to order the vaccine, because they don't stock it, but they are willing to order it. But when they do, you have to absolutely commit to a strict schedule to come in for the shots, and you have to pay for them up front. At least that's what I was told awhile back.

As for our insurance picking up the cost, is that new?

yes, I think it is new. someone was talking about it before the final the other day
