I just signed up for VIN and got accepted. Just wanted to let you all know in case you want to sign up too!
the physiology book is very useful 2nd semester first year - but it can be rented or borrowed from the library.Hey current students, which textbooks are worth buying out of the 1st year books?
Wheater's Functional Histology
Duke's Physiology of Domestic Animals
Veterinary Immunology: An Introduction
Veterinary Microbiology
Guide to the Dissection of the Dog
Physiology of Domestic Animals is the only "required" book. All the rest are listed as "suggested".
Edit: Also, are any of these worth renting?
The micro book will be helpful for your homework, but you don't need it.
If I accidentally forgot to sell back my basic micro book from undergrad will it probably work just as well?

Are you talking about the paper? I can't remember any other homework from first semester other than that. But, if it is the paper you're talking about, Dr. Bemis didn't make them do one this year. I don't know if he will in the future, but definitely didn't this year. He just gave them another test, which honestly, I'd rather have to do the paper!😀
I got my welcome packet in the mail as well. I'm curious about what kind of orientation activities there are?
So, what is everyone putting in their biography for Dean Brace?
The only things I can think of are either stupid and corny, or make me sound really really silly.
Stupid/corny:
-where I'm from
-how old I am
-relationship status (i.e. married)
-hobbies
Really silly
-personality quirks like love of big words
-being way to excited about starting school on my birthday
Well, I was just called off the waitlist for UTK this morning and I'm OOS, from Florida. I'm SO excited. good luck to anyone else still waiting.

Just stay out of "the Fort."

So, who all has bought/is buying that veterinary medical terminology book? I thought about getting the notecards, but I figure the book was worth the extra 15-20, just because I bet it puts things in more of a context (instead of just GRE-like word memorization). I'm a bit disappointed that so far, it seems like a book made for younger, or less educated students. While I do appreciate it likening words to trains, prefixes to the engines, and suffixes to the caboose (or a cell to a building, with brick and mortar proteins and lipids!), it just feels a bit ridiculous. Anyone else feel the same? Hopefully it gets better the further I get (i'm only 1.5 chapters in).

Hey, I'm hoping you guys can help me out because I'm having a crisis. I got called off the waitlist over a week ago and my parents are forcing me to go to knoxville next week to find an apartment but I haven't received anything from the school yet, just a call, so I'm going up to Knoxville totally blind. Do you think you could pass along any important information you have received so far or let me know when classes start at least or anything helpful because I don't even know when classes start or when orientation is or anything. Did you receive anything in your packets that was time critical, like a book list that says we have to have ordered books by a certain time or a supply list? Any information would be appreciated, just PM me. thanks so much.
Even though I've called the school 3 times I'm still not sure I got in. this sucks.
Whoa, this Circle Park thing is really confusing. Do we have to click on the "I have read and understand the date deadlines" button and select "Fall 2010 TERM" directly under the red banner every time we log in?
hhhmmmm now where is the financial aid stuff? I feel like I'm on a treasure hunt...a very frustrating treasure hunt. poo
