For those interviewing at Tennessee, are you bringing a guest or going by yourself?

When I interviewed at UT, almost everyone went to the interview with a parent.

I brought a guest when I interviewed this July

Does it necessarily have to be a parent? My parents work, so I'm bringing an older cousin. Does it really matter?

I have no idea lol I'm bringing my parent but I just didn't want to be the other one with a guest. In the email I believe it says you can bring anybody.

Okay, thanks! What day is your interview if I may ask?

Oh, mine is Sept 28. Good luck! Dr. Covington is very nice, and if you ask him, he knows some of the best places to eat in Memphis. Haha

Hey guys, I'm interviewing this Friday Oct. 5th.
How stressful is the interview? Was it laid back or did you get all the "tough" questions?
This will be my first ever interview for a dental school, so I'm unsure of what to expect overall.

Dr. Covington is amazing! The interview is super laid back. They really just want to get to know you. Really no pressure. It's a fun day and very stress free

I'm OOS. I'm from Alabama. I really loved their school. Let me know if there are any other OOS interviewing with you. I had 2 from Florida, one from Mississippi, and one from Texas interviewing with me and apparently that's a large number of OOS for one interview date.

There were 4 OOS at my interview date. 2 of them were Arkansas though, so they would pay instate. Really laidback interview!

It's hard to determine how many OOS they are actually interviewing since the school doesnt count Arkansas residents as out of state "technically." Dr Covington said 46 in-staters 34-ish Arkansas residents and 10 OOS..I'm a stats nerd and I wish I knew my actual chances!

And all of the Arkansas students are not guaranteed instate tuition either. He mentioned how last year only 23 or 24 got instate tuition bc the gov didn't pay for the rest of them. :/ that sucks. And your statistics sound about right. Not as many OOS as many people believe. You're from AL? I'm going to AL tonight! Haha

I will let you guys know if there are other OOS'ers. I have a feeling all of us OOS got held off until the end of the interview cycle (they've been interviewing since July from what I know).
I'm from Louisiana, so I'll definitely pay attention to where some of these other folks are at.

Wow, well that interview was not what I expected. We seemed to talk alot about things other than dentistry. I really felt like the whole day was them "observing" you as a person more than the novelty that was the interview.

So we had one student from Florida today. Other than that it was 8 people total and 2 OOS'ers counting the both of us.

I really loved the campus and the students were awesome and helpful.

What did you think of the Dentsim lab?

The Dentsim lab was the highlight of the whole campus tour. That was some truly impressive technology. It was fun, I even got to keep the tooth I drilled out as a souvenir!

Yeah overall I was really impressed with the school, professors, and the students. I wish I knew what sort of chance I actually have of being the 1 in 10 OOS..cause I really want to go there!

Trying to think positive! I'm trying to come up with ways so they know I'm really serious about attending their school without bugging them or anything.

Man...
Am I the only one who is counting down until December!?
I'm praying for all of us hopeful Memphians, lol.

What is dress code at these? Suits for guys and suits for guest too (Dad)?

Definitely. Dental school interview = suit and tie.
Always.

There were a couple fathers at my interview. One wore a sports jacket, nice shirt, and pants. The other wore a suit and tie.

Good luck at your interview! Are you OOS?

I had my interview on the 28th of September. It was very laid back and most of the questions they ask you are from your personal statement. The interview was like 15 minutes lol But everyone was extremely nice, even the other students that were interviewing there. Im OOS state so that 1% chance that I have of getting in is really cool lol not! There out of state tuition is off the chain high too $363,000 for 4 years really! I almost fainted when I saw that haha

Yeah, OOS is insane. I'm not sweating the tuition since I am working on getting (hopefully) a 4 year HPSP with the Army.

The students interviewing in our October 5th group were all super friendly as well.

I really enjoyed my interview group. Everyone was friendly and seemed really cool. I would be honored to be able to spend four years with any of them! This has not been the case at some other interviews I've attended.

For those of you who have already interviewed, did you do any mock interviews? If so, did they help or was the interview pretty chill?

To answer the OP, I'm bringing my wife!

I wouldn't sweat it one second. The interview is nothing at all really. Just be familiar with what you wrote on AADSAS. I have always thought that the interview process was more about the ENTIRE day. It seems they are trying to loosen you up so they can see what kind of person you are like. I highly doubt the interview itself is of any detrimental, significant value.
