After we've been accepted to a school, a few months down the road, if we terminate our volunteering assignments, do we need to report this to our school of choice? Or no one cares?

Why would they care? I doubt your volunteering was the crux of your acceptance, but the fact remains that you did volunteer, which is what is important.

maybe your volunteering wasn't all that altruistic, now was it? 😉

i understand though- sometimes you do things you don't want to do what needs to get done- i'd probably do the same thing

- the school won't give two squirts of horse urine if you quit

Why do you want to stop volunteering? Was the volunteering that you did just to get you into medical school, or did you actually enjoy giving your time to others for free?

I was actually asked this very question by my mother this morning, and I told her that I would continue until I left for medical school. She was disappointed as she wanted me to spend as much time with my husband as I could before medical school started. I actually enjoy volunteering and giving of myself to others, and I wish I did more before instead of wasting half my life. So, I plan on continuing right up until I head off to medical school.

Of course, in medical school we won't have time to do anything but study, but I will do volunteer work after medical school where I can actually make a difference (as someone who can practice medicine) rather than just volunteering without skills as I do now.

And, it's probably true. The school won't care if you quit volunteering as the whole admissions process can be gamed by those who play the system right.

The majority of premeds who volunteer during college do so to get into med school. You're in. You can stop whenever you want. To hell with the hypocrites. 👍

I am somewhat disappointed by the way some of you have jumped to negative conclusions.

I have moved to a different city recently, and so I had to cut some volunteering activities because of driving distance and because of a new job activity that takes up most of my time.

Oh and your assumption that I quit as soon as I was accepted is also mistaken. I actually continued to volunteer for some months, since I was accepted very early in the cycle.

 Just a suggestion, but its not really "noble" to jump on someone's case and then criticize a person for not being noble. Its sort of a self contradiction...like being a hypocrite.

Volunteering takes away jobs from hardworking Americans

Just teasing...
