Someone mentioned today that most people that get accepted into osteopathic schools are socially wierd and awkward. Im sure this cant b true, but at the same time, what would provoke someone to say that?

He just got into an MD program at FSU, from what i hear is a semi-sucky MD school with horrible usmle stats. i know he did apply to many do schools.

😕

.... seriously? Why would DO applicants be any more socially awkward than their MD counterparts? Sounds like whoever said it was being an ass. Every one of my friends going to DO schools are going because they took advantage of grade replacement after having too much fun in the greek system in undergrad. Besides, its med school. Go there to accomplish your career goals, I'm sure you will meet fun people along the way.

this is silly and could be said about anything. why would you take one kids skewed perspective seriously?

In my opinion I think people to apply and get accepted into osteopathic schools are usually less socially awkward. Most of the people who get into MD schools devote their lives to volunteering, studying, shadowing, research etc. I think people who typically apply DO are more socially rounded. I know speaking for myself, I spend undergrad partying and hanging out which is why I cant get into MD lol. So I have to say no, people who apply DO are actually have lives lol.

agreed!!!! that's what i thought!!!! 🙂i was afraid i was missing something. guess not!!! 😀

gosh, he was a total buttmunch!!! 😛

Yeah, I would almost never take any single person's viewpoint as the whole truth. How could this person substantiate their claim? In this case, if it can't be tested, it doesn't warrant serious consideration. If it is a huge deal for you, you could always go visit a campus and see for yourself. I've been around several D.O. students, and don't find them especially socially awkward compared to M.D. students.

Im with DbDan and Scarlet on this one...

I wish I had been a little more "socially awkward" in my early college career.

FSU =/= bad MD school, by any means. Additionally, there will be weird people and normal people wherever you go in life ... especially in advanced education. However, I'd personally say that I've met less socially awkward people at DO schools.

Haha thank you. I think that needed to be said.

Gonna have to second this. And to add on, the higher the tier of medical school the more socially awkward I would expect them to be.

I actually have a reoccuring nightmare where I'm alone in a room with a MD/PhD Harvard Grad.
