Terrible Writing Sample Score. Thoughts?

MCAT: Physical 7 Bio 8 Verbal 13 Writing K Total 28K

GPA: 3.58 cumulative, 3.33 science

Good EC's with leadership roles. work in medical field and research lab. Volunteer work both medical and non-medical. From Ohio.

I'm looking at applying to a few in-states and a few DO schools. Will the K break me? I'm thinking about just applying DO since it looks like none of the MD schools I was looking at take anything less than an M according to the AAMC book. The DO schools are more secretive.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on when or if to retake the mcat and on waiting until the next application cycle. I'd really like to apply for this cycle but I'm not sure if/how I could improve by late August/early September or if I would be too late. Any tips on bringing up the writing score and science scores would be great too. Thank you for any insight.

I would go ahead and apply, but also retake. I would be more concerned about that 7 on physical sciences than a poor writing score.

Yeah the 7 in PS is pretty bad. But geez, a 13 in verbal...
