Texas A&M Accepted for Class of 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
question for current students. how are the scholarship opportunities? scarce, vast, or so-so?

ATTN: aggiesean, cpa2md, mulliewins, and all other current A&M students!!!

"We don't have syllabi per se, we get handouts for classes. E.g. for "gross anatomy your given handouts in outline form that you pretty much need to memorize for the test. For biochem we're given slides in PDF format"
which makes me want to look over and get a feel for the material.

Where can one find the handouts, slides, PDF documents, powerpoints for gross anatomy and biochemistry? I'm betting that students have access to the school website where these can be downloaded. But because I don't have access to this yet, I was hoping someone could help me and my future classmates at A&M obtain the study material beforehand.

I have been lurking the SDN forums for a LONG time, and this is my first post. More importantly, I was accepted to A&M in pre-match (there is a God).

These materials are property of TAMHSC and we're expected to keep this stuff for our own purposes. I'd be happy to send you a representative slide or single page from notes, but myself or any other student will not post these materials in a public forum or give them to someone we don't know.

An easier way to get a feel for the material would be to peruse BRS/Rapid Review/High Yield board review books. Sometimes we're expected to know details beyond these books, but they will give you an idea of where to start.

The $1000/year thing is new, but scholarships even like this are hard to come by. Also, any notification of scholarship has already been sent out.

These materials are copyrighted and we would get in big doo-doo for posting them or sharing them. Sorry.

Also, it's not like there's a repository of them. We basically get the notes for each section at the beginning of that section - sometimes not even until the day of the lecture.

As we were told last spring - don't worry about it until you are there. In the meantime, relax, plan your summer vacation, and focus on your family and friends!😉

Lol congrats!

I forgot to mention I had my first learning experience in the A&M building at Scott and White...my wife and I had our first Lamaze class last week...ha.

Sorry to double post, but this one-day-only deal is way too good to not publicize. http://www.woot.com/

I'm looking at it now....but they aren't giving much info on it. What size is the screen, what software, etc. Am I missing it somewhere?

Edit: Nevermind...I found it.

it's down at the bottom

not a bad deal on it

I just don't know how I feel about tablets. I have never used one...much less owned one. I really don't see myself using the actual tablet application very often, so what would be an added benefit of owning a tablet over a laptop? Sean, Mullie, or CPA, are we absolutely sure that owning a tablet is not that big of a deal. I would hate to buy a new laptop, and have this be the semester they start enforcing that requirement.

don't buy a tablet!

Well...I guess I am going with a Laptop then.

Do not buy a tablet unless you WANT one. Just make sure your computer has a working ethernet card.

Gotcha. Thanks for the help. I have never recieved and official email explaining we HAVE to have a tablet...so maybe they have given up on the idea. Speaking of packets...the first one was a little dissapointing. I'm ready to get the next one with some meat to it.

Question about financial aid....do we need to fill out the FAFSA now, or should we wait?

Sooner is usually better (unless you're in a BCS game). Yeah the 2nd packet will have plenty o' crap for you to fill out. Knowing OIT, you'll get an e-mail 3 weeks before the ordering deadline and you'll have to fork out your own cash. Ignore it.

I will be vacating my Temple house as soon as school is out (May 9), and won't be back until right before school starts. If anyone is looking for a place to live for the summer before school starts, PM me and I'll provide details.

I'll also say again, I love my tablet, but it's not the end of the world if you only have a laptop. I loved my laptop, too. I guess I'm just a loving person.🙄

I know FOR SURE that I want to do my 3rd and 4th year in Temple (can you say "Scott & White"?), but I am split on where to do 1st and 2nd year. PLEASE, CURRENT and FUTURE A&M med students, tell me why you decided to choose/ are planning on choosing Temple vs College Station!!!!!!!

In addition, just so you know, I want to go in to specialty medicine (wonder why?) and wonder whether spending the 1st and 2nd years in Temple vs College Station will affect the way my resume develops. What I want to know is whether what residency directors (who need to somehow award a coveted residency placement to a handful of many eager and ambitious MDs) want is a spectacularly well rounded student (involved in school committees/ student associations). Will these sorts of opportunities be available on both campuses equally or am I better served being in College Station (where there are more students, and therefore I presume, more going on, allowing me to become a more well rounded applicant) or in Temple?

Thanks for all your help, guys. Now go save some lives!!!!!!!!

Can't wait til rotations!!!!!!!!!

If A, then B.
I pre-matched to A&M. Therefore/ thus/ hence, God really does exist.

Sean, Mullie, this one's for you! I don't know where to begin...

I did own a tablet for three years. I wanted to have all of my notes in electronic format, and as a chemistry major the majority of my classes involved drawing out mechanisms and writing math equations (something that does not lend itself well to electronic note taking). I used it in conjunction with Microsoft OneNote which is an awesome application that lets you print documents into the note page and annotate them (extremely helpful with pdf slides etc). Tablets like to talk big about the ink to text application (converting handwritting to text) but I never saw one that was worth the trouble, and it has trouble understanding anything but the most clear handwritting.

After three years, the computer itself crapped out on me and since the price on the tablet had not dropped significantly, and since the majority of my notes now are text (as opposed to equations, figures, etc). I switched to a macbook. I run VMWare fusion which lets me run windows simultaneously so I have zero problems with compatibility. I also still use OneNote (which I recommend to everyone).

Hope this helps.

Almost fell off the first page...unacceptable.

how about a quick roll call for all those coming to A&M this summer...this includes all the silent folks who don't usually post. after this is done I have a PM to send all of you.

I'm there fo sho. It still blows my mind I will be quitting work and going back to school in a few months. I'm ready to get this show on the road. I need to look in the Guiness Book of World Record to see what the record is for number of credit hours...I have to be creeping up on that.

I'm in! Gonna be up in Temple hopefully. Looking forward to becoming an aggiedoc

Again, if anyone needs any help with housing in Temple, I am happy to give you any info you might need...just shoot me a PM.

I'll be there (unless Baylor interviews me soon.)

There's a guy in our class with his R.N. and Ph.D. in Pharmacy. 😱

Damn....I think he may have me. I bet I'm not far behind though. I bet he will make a great study partner in pharmacology.

Oh, and if any of you current students are up at the school late tonight, stop by room 110 to see me and my ever growing pregnant wife.

Long time listener, first time caller. I'll be heading down to Aggieland this summer too.

95% I'm in too. Waiting on Keck, I probably don't have a chance.

I'm in...

wait

what?

who are you? how did you get this number? And how did you get my resume? Oh no no, I''m flattered, don't get me wrong. I''m just not sure it's my official resume, or if its just something a satisfied customer posted online. What does it say under martial arts training? Oh... okay, I''m going to have to supplement that. What''s your fax number?
So you got the fax? So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant. Uh excuse me, I know about a billion Asians who would beg to differ! Uh yeah, I get a little frustrated when I''m dealing with incompetence! Well you know what? You can go to hell too, and I''ll see you there. BURNING. FINE. Oh wait, so you'll let me know when you made a decision?

whoop! i'll be in cs for 4 years. finding a place for the summer soon.

When is MS1 orientation and what is the first day of class? Also need info on housing in CS (not too familiar with the area)... what 1-2 bedroom apartments are recommended and which ones should be steered clear of? 🙂
