I'd like to know if any of my fellow A&M acceptees have received any follow-on information yet. PharmDeb had posted that Dr. Robertson mentioned that we should be receiving information packets soon. I haven't gotten anything yet, but then, I'm in El Paso and if it's coming by way of regular mail it's going to take a couple of days longer.

Would also like to know if any of you have applied yet for financial aid and would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has received a response yet.

Thanks.

no info yet either, I live in Dallas and have been checking the mail everyday. Should we go ahead and apply for financial aid through fasfa. Kinda confused!

I'm 90 miles from Kingsville and nothing. I'm assuming they can't do anything with a fafsa unless you're admitted. Did anyone contact registration? I haven't done a thing.

You should fill out your FAFSA ASAP if not already.

I do have one completed, just didn't have a copy forwarded to the school. CatSpam & hookemhorns, have you?

Has anyone called to inquire when are we gonna receive the information packet? I already submitted my FAFSA, with Kingsville included, but I've never received any info either. Maybe they would be ready after they figure out our tuition cost.

Did you get an e-mail or anything verifying fafsa was recieved? I haven't contacted anyone about anything since the e-mail saying info was coming. I'm bogged down with stuff so haven't been very proactive.

Nope. Maybe they haven't processed anything yet. This Friday was the deadline for the second round, so they could be waiting for acceptance replies before giving out the packet. I'll try to call them on Monday to see what's up.

hey when you fill out your fasfa, did we put the school as Texas A&M Kingsville, or do we put it under Texas A&M Health Science Center???

I put the school as Texas A&M Kingsville. I'm not even sure I saw A&M HSC there. We'll find out tomorrow.

I have one other question too...when you fill out the fasfa it determines if you are "dependent" or "independent" based on your bday. Anyhow, I'm old enough to be considered independent but then it says that if you are a health major then you might want to include your parents tax info. So, I was wondering should I get my parents to fill out their info? What's the benefits if i do?

I thought "dependent" means you dont have the income to sustain yourself, and your parents would have to claim you as a "dependent" on their tax info. I'm not sure it was based just by age.

You could get your parents to fill out their info, but you can also do it yourself if they dont have the time to. All you need is their tax info, and you're set. FAFSA tells you which item no. belongs to which blank.

According to the Health Science Center's Financial Aid website, the school code you need to use on your FAFSA is E00998. This will be listed on your FAFSA as:

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY SYSTEMS-HSC (E00998)

When you make these changes to the FAFSA, they will automatically send a copy of it to the financial aid people at the HSC.

So I called them about the info packet, and they said they sent them out today. We should be getting them by this week.

BTW-Are we now considered as graduate students?

I'm such a slacker...I haven't filled out the FAFSA yet because A&M Kingsville isn't working on our financial aid and I didn't know what to do!!! Where are you guys gonna live? I live in Corpus right now, but I think I'm gonna move back to Kingsville...my only motivation for moving back is the new Starbucks they are building : )

I just got notified today that they haven't received my acceptance response! 😱 I mailed it two weeks ago! This was the first time I encountered a lost mail. Good thing that got sorted out quickly 🙂

how did they tell you??? did they send you a letter saying they haven't received it yet?

They sent me an email. Dr. Robertson said they tried contacting my cell too, but I usually dont check my voice messages...until today hehe.

Ok so I called and asked a few questions, but forgot to ask something...gosh 😱 Anyhow, for sure we use the code for the A&M HSC on our fasfa and not the one for a&m Kingsville (the code is posted above). I also asked a few other questions but forgot to ask the all important question of, "when do we have to be there." I'm trying to plan a cruise, and I'm guessing class starts around the same time the everyone else at A&M Kingsville starts (aug 28), but I wonder if we have an orientation earlier?? Anybody know???

In an article in the Corpus Christi Caller Times it listed our first day as Aug 14th. I got the info pac in the mail yesterday but it was sent to my mom's address (permanent add) instead of my address. oops

Unfortunately, the packet contains very little meat in the way of usable info. It doesn't tell us what our tuition rates will be nor does it address our schedule.

I assume the "good" stuff is coming in the next "big envelope."

Just spoke with Sam Ramos at the ILRCOP. He said the first day of classes will be August 14th. In addition, they are organizing an orientation for both students and faculty that will occur about a week before this, although these dates are a little fuzzier.

Our tuition rates have not been officially approved yet. I asked Sam if he could give me a ball park figure and he said that we should probably use the University of Houston's tuition figures for comparison.

Hope this helps.

So, anyone know UH's tuition estimate?
The info packet was so disappointing! But thanks for the info CatSpam.
I found this on UH's website:

Cost of Attendance
UH College of Pharmacy Cost of Attendance, 2005-2006
First-Year Pharm.D. Student

Student cost of education budgets are carefully developed based on the cost of living in this geographic area. With careful planning and budgeting, these budgets allow a financial aid recipient to maintain a modest standard of living. The costs listed below are the actual costs for the 2005 - 2006 academic year. These costs are based on full-time enrollment for a 9-month period. Tuition and fees are subject to change by the state Legislature and/or university action.

Tuition and fees for Texas Residents: $10,720

Tuition and fees for Nonresidents: $19,276

Books: $3,000

Room and Board: $8,600 (depending on if student lives off campus, on campus or with parents)

Personal: $2,900

Transportation: $2,350

Total Texas Residents: $27,570 (for students living off campus)

Total Nonresidents: $36,126

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuition and fees for Texas Residents: $10,720

Hmm...slightly higher than I've expected. I expect ILRCOP's tuition to be in the $8,000-9,000 range.

Actually, I was happy to see these numbers. One of the financial aid representatives at the interviews said they were estimating tuition to be $16,000!

woohoo, bring on the debt!!! and I agree, the info packet was extremely disappointing

No way! Not even UT's tuition was that high!! 😱 The last estimate I saw from UT was around $9,000-11,000. Maybe he/she meant cost of attendance. Because if the rep meant that, $16,000 would be around the ballpark.

why are we starting that early??? they said we start on the 14th but that we also need to be there a week early! That's a whole month earlier than any other school in Texas (even regular classes @ Kingsville)...anyhow, I'm just bitter because I was trying to plan a cruise, oh well......CAUSE WE ARE STARTING PHARMACY SCHOOL...YAY!

I agree! I have no idea why we're starting that early! 😡 With that note, we better end sooner than most schools in Texas!

hey just wondering if anyone received the letter in the mail that has our UIN number on it, and if so, did you try to set up your NEO or NET ID account? I tried with the number that it gave me in the letter and it didn't work! Did you guys get it to work? Also, for those of you not from the corpus/kingsville area, when are you going to look for housing???

Look, everyone. Stop the whining. Texas Tech begins their fall session at the end of June where everyone goes through a two-week boot camp prior to starting their classes.

Besides, I don't know about you but I'm chompin' at the bit waiting to get started and I'm really looking forward to having some time to meet my classmates.

Remember, we're the lucky ones who made it into a pharmacy program. I wouldn't let minor issues like this get in the way of what should be an enjoyable experience.
